現代語訳

梁苑（りょうえん）

梁園の秋竹古時の煙、城外風悲しんで暮れんと欲す天
万乗の旌旗いずれの処にか在る、平台の賓客誰か憐れまん

梁園の竹は古時、孝王のことく相変わらず繁って生えているばかりで、古時の景色の通りである。孝王の時は結構なことであったろうか。

城外を見れば暮れ方に秋のもの凄い風が吹いて、荒れ果てて物悲しい様子である。孝王の盛んな時は天子同然であったゆえ、万乗天子の真似をなされていたが、今はあと形もない。その時分は司馬相如や鄒陽のような文人才士を迎え愛されたというが、孝王のような人があれば我々も相如などのように用いられようになりたい。詳しくは掌故または講釈本を見るべし。

Liang Garden (Ryōen)

The autumn bamboo of Liang Garden, smoke of ancient times;
Outside the castle walls, the wind grieves as heaven desires to darken.
Where now are the banners and flags of ten thousand chariots?
Who will pity the guests of the Ping Terrace?

The bamboo of Liang Garden remains unchanged from ancient times, growing thickly just as in the time of Prince Xiao. The scenery is the same as in ancient times. How splendid it must have been in Prince Xiao's time!

Looking outside the castle walls, as evening approaches, an eerie autumn wind blows, creating a desolate and melancholy scene. In Prince Xiao's prosperous time, he was like the emperor himself, so he imitated the style of the ten-thousand-chariot Son of Heaven, but now there is no trace left. At that time, he welcomed and cherished literary talents like Sima Xiangru and Zou Yang. If there were someone like Prince Xiao now, we too would wish to be employed like Xiangru and others. For details, one should consult historical records or commentary books.
