重陽の節句には高いところに登るものだという習慣により、私も人に誘われて、蜀の望郷台に登って見ると、故郷ならば面白いだろうに、よその席でのことであり、特に今日は、この場所に登って別れる人もいるので、いよいよ悲しい。私は都から南、蜀の国の方へ来ていて、故郷へ帰ることもできないのに、雁はどうしたことか、北の地から飛んで来ることよ、と鳥に託して言うこと。情趣が豊かで面白い。詳しくは掌故にある。

　　　The Ninth Day in Shu（Double Ninth Festival in Shu）　　　　Wang Bo
On the ninth day of the ninth month, at Longing-for-Home Pavilion, at another's table in a foreign land, sending off a guest with wine cup; human feelings already weary of the hardships of the south - why do the wild geese come from the northern lands?

According to the custom that one should climb to high places on the Double Ninth Festival, I too was invited by others and climbed the Longing-for-Home Pavilion in Shu. Though it would be delightful if this were my hometown, this is at another's table, and especially today, since there are people who climb to this place and then part ways, it is all the more sorrowful. I have come from the capital to the south, to the land of Shu, unable to return to my hometown, yet why do the wild geese fly here from the northern lands? This is expressed through the metaphor of birds. The sentiment is rich and interesting. Details can be found in historical records.
