みやこからこのところへきて。

れは。ちりほこりとなりて風

現代語訳

其二

北海陰風動地来
明君祠上望龍堆
髑髏尽是長城卒
日暮沙場飛作灰

明君祠は昭君（王昭君）の廟である。蛮夷の北海から激しい陰風が地を動かして吹いてくる。龍堆は砂漠で、龍の形のようになっているためにこう言うのである。果てしもない荒涼とした場所である。昔より都からこの地へ来て戦死した兵士たちの死体を、誰が片付けるものもいないので、白骨ばかりである。夕暮れ時に見れば、塵や埃となって風に吹き飛んでいる。辺境に来ている我らも、このようになるであろうと、感慨に堪えられないということである。

Part Two

From the northern sea, cold winds stir the earth as they come
Above the shrine of the Enlightened Ruler, gazing toward Dragon Mound
Skulls are all that remain of the Great Wall soldiers
At evening in the sandy battlefield, they fly up as ash

The Shrine of the Enlightened Ruler (Meikun-shi) refers to the temple of Zhaojun (Wang Zhaojun). From the northern sea of the barbarian lands, fierce cold winds blow, stirring the earth. Dragon Mound (Ryūtai) is in the desert, called so because it resembles the shape of a dragon. It is an endless, desolate place. Since ancient times, soldiers who came from the capital to this place and died in battle - with no one to tend to their corpses - have left only white bones behind. When viewed at dusk, they have become dust and are blown away by the wind. We who have come to this frontier will likely meet the same fate, and the emotion is unbearable.
