[Right folio] As escort for the journey, Maenami Fujiemon Kagesada accompanied [Yoshiaki] with five hundred horsemen, and they arrived at the port of Tsuruga. From there, Asakura Nakatsukasa-no-taifu Kagetsune joined Maenami with over three hundred horsemen, and they proceeded to the manor of Odani in northern Ōmi Province. Azai Bitchū-no-kami Nagamasa came out to receive [Yoshiaki] and had him installed in Odani Castle. From Gifu, Fuwa Kawachi-no-kami and Murai Minbu-no-shō were dispatched as guides, and the two Asakura envoys returned from Odani. Azai also escorted [Yoshiaki] as far as the lodgings at Sekigahara. On the twenty-fifth of the same month, Yoshiaki entered his lodgings at Gifu. [Marginal note in vermillion, upper margin:] Nobunaga presses Jōtei [Rokkaku Yoshikata]. Three envoys—Niki Iga-no-kami Yoshimasa, Iikawa Yamashiro-no-kami Nobusada, and Isshiki Shikibu-no-shō Fujinaga—were dispatched from Yoshiaki to Jōtei [Rokkaku Yoshikata] at Mitsukuri, accompanied by Nobunaga's mounted guard, totaling over fifteen hundred men in all. They departed Gifu on the eighth day of the eighth month, arrived at Sawayama in Ōmi Province on the tenth, and sent the chief envoys—the abbot of Zuiryūji and Takei Sekian—to Kannonji Castle. [Left folio] However, Jōtei did not agree [to their demands], and Nobunaga was greatly enraged. Although the eighteenth was designated as the day of departure for the return journey, a retainer of the Sasaki clan named Nomura Etchū-no-kami Takakatsu, who bore a grievance against the lay monk of Mitsukuri, had his son desert [the Rokkaku] and come over to Nobunaga's side. Furthermore, Gamō Chūzaburō Ujisato, residing in Hino in Ōmi Province, also secretly sent a messenger [to Nobunaga]. [Marginal note in vermillion, upper margin:] Various castles in Ōmi Province. Among the castles held by the lay monk Bakkansai Jōtei's side: first, Kannonji was the main stronghold and the residence of the supreme commander, Sasaki Shuri-no-taifu Yoshihide; the others were Mitsukuri, Wadayama, Hachimanyama, Tsuda, Nagahara, Yamamoto, Odani, Yokoyama, Kashiwabara, Namazue, Kanisaka, Kōka, Okoto, Katata, Wani, Tanaka, and Shinjo—eighteen locations in total. (Aochi is also listed.) Among those including Iyo-no-kami Hideyori and below, [there was also] Nomura Higo-no-kami. In Eiroku 12 [1569], intending to catch Shogun Yoshiaki off guard, the Miyoshi designated Miyoshi Yamashiro-no-kami Masayasu, the lay monk Shōgan, the lay monk of Shimotsuke Chūkan, and Hyūga-no-kami Nagayasu as commanders of the main force of attack, with Yakushiji Kurōzaemon Sadaharu as the vanguard, and Saitō Uhyōe-no-taifu [as…]
