[Right folio] (Added to the prior stipend in Shiga District,) the total came to one hundred thousand koku. His landholdings in Anpachi District of Mino Province were surrendered (to Nobunaga). Yoshikage attempted to muster the forces of the whole domain, but apparently having grown weary of the repeated campaigns in Ōmi Province in recent years with little to show for them, the following men — Ōno Shikibu-no-taifu, Ango no Magosaburō, Kanatsu no Mizoe Ōi-no-suke, Fukasaka no Asakura Gemba-no-jō, Mikuni no Sakurai Shinzaemon, Oda no Asakura Hyōgo-no-suke, and beyond them, Kobayashi Saburōjirō and Uozumi Bingo-no-kami, along with several tens of officer-commanders each leading forces of one or two hundred horsemen — feigned illness and refused to mobilize. Nevertheless, Yamazaki Nagato-no-kami Yoshiie, Takumi Echigo-no-kami Yukitada, and Kawai Aki-no-kami Munekiyo, with more than three thousand horsemen in total, marched out on the third day of the eighth month as the advance force and joined the muster at Hikidan Castle. Yoshikage, with Kitanoshō Tosa-no-kami, Asakura Kamon-no-suke, Shōrenge Ōmi-no-kami, Tōgō Shimōsa-no-kami, Toba Umanosuke, and Asakura Izumo-no-kami as his vanguard, arrived at Tsuruga with more than five thousand horsemen on the fourth day of the same month. Declaring that the Azai father and son in northern Ōmi must be supported, they set out from Hikidan and [Left folio] [Marginal note in vermillion, upper margin:] The Camp at Yanagase crossed Tonemiyama and encamped at the post town of Yanagase, dispatching the vanguard as far as the vicinity of Tagamiyama. Nobunaga entered Nagahama Castle by boat on the eighth day of the eighth month and, having broadly arranged dispositions around the Odani front, took up positions facing Yoshikage's encampments at Yanagase and Tagamiyama. Asami Tsushima-no-kami, a warrior living at Yakio to the east of Odani and Ōtsuku, surrendered and became an informant for Lord Oda, and at midnight on the tenth day admitted Mino troops into the fortified position. Aclose Awaji-no-kami (Ato-ji Awaji-no-kami) again plotted treachery and cut off the road between Yanagase and Odani, so that everything went awry and opinions in council were divided. Kitanoshō Tosa-no-kami and Yamazaki Nagato-no-kami, the castellan of Fuchū, argued that "we should withdraw to Tsuruga and wait to assess the enemy's movements." Asakura Izumo of Awatabe, Kawai Aki of Somayama, and Asakura Kamon of Ikeda at first agreed with this opinion. But while Yoshikage delayed by prolonging the deliberations, (his troops) crossed Tonemiyama one after another, each vying to be first.
