**[Right folio]** Since Yoshimune had no natural heir, he adopted Yoshiyori, styled Sakyō-no-suke, the younger brother of Sasaki Yoshihide. Yoshihide's mother was a daughter of the *kubō* Yoshiharu and thus an elder sister of Yoshiaki; therefore Yoshiyori was the nephew of Lord Yoshiaki. For this reason, the Takeda father and son held Yoshiaki in great respect. Nevertheless, as Wakasa was a small province, they judged that they could not see the matter through to the end, and through Mutō Kōzuke-no-suke of Ishiyama in the Saburi Valley, sent a message to Asakura Saemon-no-kami Yoshikage, the great lord of Echizen (*Etchū*), upon whom they had relied as the standard-bearer of their cause. Lord Yoshiaki added Ōdachi Jibu-no-tayū Harutada as a deputy envoy. Yoshikage also gave his consent and dispatched Asakura Shikibu-no-tayū Kagami (Akira) to Wakasa to serve as an escort. On the last day of the ninth month of Eiroku 9 (1566), Yoshiaki was moved to the castle of Tsuruga, within Asakura's domain. The castle at that time was under the charge of Kurōzaemon Kagutada, son of the late Kingo Nyūdō Sōteki, together with his son Nakatsukasa-no-tayū Kagetsune; father and son received Yoshiaki with reverence and respect. He was shortly to be ushered into Ichijō (Ichijōdani), but around that time, one of Yoshikage's retainers, a man called Horie Nakatsukasa-no-saburō Toshishige, turned against the Asakura: his landholdings in Sakanakita District were confiscated, he was expelled from his residence at Honjo, and he fled to Kaga. **[Left folio]** On account of this disturbance, Yoshiaki remained for a time at Tsuruga, and thereafter made his entry into Ichijōdani. Among those in his retinue were: Niki Iga-no-kami Yoshimasa; Ōdachi Jibu-no-tayū Harutada; the same clan's Iyo-no-kami Nobusada; Ueno Mutsu-no-kami Nobusada; the same clan's Nakatsukasa-no-tayū Harunobu; Isshiki Harima-no-kami Haruie; the same clan's Shikibu-no-tayū Fujinaga; Ise Shimōsa-no-kami Sadataka; the same clan's Ukyō-no-suke; Takeda Jibu-no-shōyū Nobusada; Mitsabuchi Yamato-no-kami Akiie; and Mitsabuchi's branch Nagaoka Hyōbu-no-tayū Fujitaka; Iikawa Yamashiro-no-kami Nobumasa; the same clan's Higo-no-kami; Andō Kurōdo Yasunori; Sugihara Hyōgo-no-suke Nagamori; Niwa Tango-no-kami; Ōkusa Jibu-no-shōyū; Soga Hyōgo-no-suke; Nose Tanba-no-kami; Numata Yajūrō; and Makishima Magosaburō—these being the leading figures among a total of over one hundred and twenty persons, high and low alike. Yoshikage's reverence was beyond measure, and a council was held regarding the subjugation of the rebel Miyoshi. Yoshiaki was greatly pleased, and indicating that there should be a military council in the presence of the Asakura clan and their retainers, those who came to be received in audience included: Asakura Magosaburō Kagetake; the same clan's Tosa-no-kami Kageyuki; the same clan's Nakatsukasa-no-tayū Kagetsune; the same clan's Shikibu-no-tayū Kagami—
