大きなる牡鹿（をしか）一 疋（ひき）躍（おどり）出 玉体（ごよくたい）をめがけ飛（とび）かゝらんとす有合（ありあふ）所の
殿上（てんじやう） 人 剣（つるぎ）を以（もつ）て払（はらひ）給（たま）へば御殿（ごてん）の棟（むね）に飛上（とびあが）り皇居（くわうきよ）をにらんで
居（ゐ）たるけしき眼玉（まなこのたま）朱（しゆ）のごとく口（くち）は耳根（みゝのね）までさけ上下の牙（きば）生違（おひちがひ）

源経基王
【隅切囲みの中】承平二年の秋頃、宮中の築山にどこからともなく大きな牡鹿が一頭躍り出て、天皇のお体を狙って飛びかかろうとした。居合わせた殿上人が剣でこれを払うと、鹿は御殿の棟に飛び上がり、皇居を睨んでいる様子は、眼球が朱のように赤く、口は耳の根元まで裂け、上下の牙が生え違い、その恐ろしさは言葉では表現できないほどであった。経基が鏑矢を弓につがえ、たちまちその鹿を射落とした。

Prince Minamoto no Tsunemoto
【Within Corner-Cut Frame】Around autumn of the second year of Shōhei era, a large stag suddenly leaped out from nowhere at the artificial hill in the imperial palace, attempting to attack the Emperor's sacred body. A court noble who was present tried to ward it off with his sword, but the deer jumped up onto the ridge of the palace building and glared at the imperial residence. Its appearance was terrifying beyond description - its eyeballs were red like vermillion, its mouth was split open to the roots of its ears, and its upper and lower fangs grew irregularly. Tsunemoto nocked a whistling arrow and immediately shot down the deer.
