又或里（またあるさと）に
有徳（うとく）の農家（のうか）
ありて金銀多（きん〴〵おほ）く
貯（たくは）へたれども
粮（かて）の蓄（たくは）へなく
心細（こゝろぼそ）き折（おり）から旅僧（たびそう）一人
止宿（ししゆく）を乞（こ）ふまゝ一夜（いちや）の
宿（やど）りをなさしめ終夜（よもすがら）
物語（ものがたり）をせしうち粮（かて）なく
して飢（うゑ）んとする事（こと）を歎（なげ）き
語（かた）りしに僧聞（そうきゝ）て我（われ）は出家（しゆつけ）の
身（み）なれば行先（ゆくさき）にて人の情（なさけ）を
得（え）ても命（いのち）は全（まつた）ふすべければ
御身（おんみ）の男子（だんし）を伴（ともな）ひ行（ゆか）んと
有（あり）ければ主喜（あるじよろこ）んで男子（だんし）一人を
僧（そう）に預（あづ）け金二百両（きんにひやくりやう）を添（そ）へ遣（つかは）すに僧金子（そうきんす）を受（うけ）ず
して男子（だんし）を伴（ともな）ひ行（ゆき）けり其後家（そのゝちいへ）に残（のこ）りし者（もの）は主従（しう〴〵）とも食尽（しよくつき）て
死（し）せしが僧（そう）に伴（ともな）はれし男子（だんし）は独（ひと）り命（いのち）を全（まつた）ふせしと饑年要録（きねんえうろく）にあり

その六
またある里に裕福な農家があって、金銀を多く蓄えていたが、食糧の蓄えがなく、心細い折に旅僧一人が宿泊を願い出たので、一夜の宿を提供し、一晩中話をした。その中で食糧がなくて飢えそうになることを嘆いて語ったところ、僧は聞いて「私は出家の身なので、行く先で人の情けを受けることができれば命は保つことができるでしょうから、あなたの息子を連れて行きましょう」と言った。主人は喜んで息子一人を僧に預け、金二百両を添えて渡そうとしたが、僧は金子を受け取らずに息子を連れて行った。その後、家に残った者は主従ともに食べ物が尽きて死んでしまったが、僧に連れられた息子は一人命を全うしたと『饑年要録』にある。
英語訳
Part Six
In another village, there was a wealthy farming household that had accumulated much gold and silver, but had no stored food provisions. During this distressing time, a traveling monk came asking for lodging, so they provided him shelter for one night and talked throughout the evening. During their conversation, the farmer lamented about having no food and facing starvation. Hearing this, the monk said, "Since I am a person who has renounced the world, I can sustain my life by receiving people's kindness wherever I go, so let me take your son with me." The master was delighted and entrusted one son to the monk, attempting to give him two hundred ryō of gold as well, but the monk refused the money and departed with the boy. Afterward, those who remained in the house—both master and servants—died when their food ran out, but the son who had been taken by the monk alone preserved his life, as recorded in the "Kinen Yōroku" (Essential Records of Famine Years).
