現代語訳
物好きな狐や狸が、武者屋敷へ行って試しに見ようと、友達の化け物を誘って行ってみれば、様子は勇ましく響き渡って、日陰は涼しく盛り上がって、気味悪くいかなる者が出るかと試そうとする内に、はや午の刻と思われ、酒臭い風が吹き横たわり、雲の幕を引き開けば、さるほどに大入道一つ目は、大薩摩の競り出しにて、両人の威儀あるものが現れれば、化け物どもは肝を弁当の焼き飯と共に潰し、さらに化け心地はなく、中でも狸などは金玉の繁盛を八人前取られながら、一幕も見ずに逃げ帰る。この時代違いも第一の不思議である。

すなわちこの一つ目と語ったのは鎌倉の権五郎景政、大入道と語ったのは武蔵坊弁慶なり。

Curious foxes and raccoon dogs went to a warrior's mansion to test and see what would happen, bringing along their monster friends. When they looked, the atmosphere was imposingly resonant, the shade was refreshingly invigorating, and while they were wondering eerily what kind of beings would appear and trying to test this, it seemed to be already the hour of the horse (noon). A sake-reeking wind blew sideways, and when the curtain of clouds was pulled open, behold, a great one-eyed nyudo appeared like a grand Satsuma performance, and when two dignified figures appeared, the monsters crushed their livers along with their lunch of fried rice, completely losing their will to transform. Among them, the raccoon dogs had their testicles' prosperity taken by eight people's worth, yet fled home without seeing even one act. This anachronism is truly the greatest wonder.
