○天人（てんにん）は首（かしら）の花曼（けまん）

○迦陵頻（かれうびん）は天上の

○和哥（わか）は此国（このくに）の風俗（ふうぞく）と
して三十一 字（じ）のかなをつら
ね心を種（たね）として情（じやう）を
述（の）ぶる事 実（まこと）をもとゝ
す故（ゆへ）に仏神（ぶつしん）も感応（かんおう）
有ほどの徳（とく）あるは哥（うた）也
それ和哥（わか）は神代（かみよ）より

現代語訳
【右丁 上段】
○天人は頭の花飾りがしぼむことなく、羽衣は常に汚れることがなく、いつもまばたきをしないという。しかしながら命が終わる時は楽しみが尽きて、五衰の悲しみがある。
○迦陵頻伽は天上の鳥である。天人の顔のようで、声が優れて美しいので、妙声鳥または好音鳥ともいう。これは仏教の説である。
【左丁 上段】
○和歌はこの国の風俗として、三十一文字のかなを連ねて心を種として情を述べることを真実をもとにする。故に仏神も感応があるほどの徳があるのは歌である。そもそも和歌は神代より始まるといわれるが、住吉大明神を歌の御神として崇め奉り、衣通姫・人麻呂・赤人を歌の祖神とするという。後に俊成・定家・家隆のような歌人が数多くいて、優れた歌が多い。

○Tennin (celestial beings) have flower ornaments on their heads that never wither, their feathered robes never become soiled, and they never blink. However, when their lives end, their pleasures are exhausted and they experience the sadness of the five signs of decay.
○Karyōbinga is a celestial bird. It has a face like that of a celestial being, and its voice is exceptionally beautiful, so it is also called the "Bird of Wondrous Voice" or "Bird of Good Sound." This is according to Buddhist teachings.

○Waka is a custom of this country, where thirty-one syllables of kana are strung together, using the heart as seed to express emotions based on truth. Therefore, poetry has such virtue that even buddhas and gods respond to it. Although waka is said to have begun in the age of the gods, we revere Sumiyoshi Daimyōjin as the deity of poetry, and regard Sotōori-hime, Hitomaro, and Akahito as the ancestral deities of poetry. Later, there were many poets like Shunzei, Teika, and Karyū, who composed numerous excellent poems.
