○茶湯（ちやのゆ）はむかしより
ある事なれども茶（ちや）
亭（てい）を数寄（すき）屋と号（がう）し
草木（さうもく）の植（うへ）やう料理（りやうり）等《割書：ニ》
いたるまで法式（ほうしき）を立（たて）て
くわしくなりしは千（せんの）
利休（りきう）よりはじまれり

【右丁 上段】
○茶湯は昔からあることだが、茶室を数寄屋と呼び、草木の植え方や料理などに至るまで作法を定めて詳細になったのは千利休からはじまった。古田織部、小堀遠州などは茶道の達人で、その流派はさまざまある。人間関係の交わりや行儀を知る一助となる。そもそも茶道は贅沢を省いて敬虔さを基本とするのを本意とするという。
○立花は京都六角堂の別当である池坊が立花の宗匠である。毎年七月七日に門弟が参集して花を立てる。身分の貴賤を問わずこれを見物する。また投げ入れ【「抛」は俗字】の伝承は各所に師がある。現代では投げ入れが専ら行われ、花の会が多い。もっともなことである。花は人の心を慰め、憂鬱な気分を散らすものであるから、よい技芸であって、身分の貴賤を問わず楽しむものとなるのも道理である。

○The tea ceremony has existed since ancient times, but it was Sen no Rikyū who began calling tea rooms "sukiya" and establishing detailed protocols extending even to the planting of vegetation and cuisine. Furuta Oribe, Kobori Enshū and others were masters of the tea ceremony, with various schools of practice. It serves as an aid in understanding human relationships and proper conduct. Originally, the tea ceremony is said to have as its fundamental principle the elimination of extravagance and the cultivation of reverence.
○Flower arrangement: Ikenobō, the head priest of Rokkakudō temple in Kyoto, is the master of rikka (formal flower arrangement). Every year on July 7th, disciples gather to arrange flowers, which people of all social classes come to view. There are also masters of nageire (informal arrangement) in various places. In modern times, nageire is especially practiced and flower gatherings are numerous. This is quite natural. Since flowers comfort the human heart and dispel melancholy, it is a fine art that becomes an entertainment for people of all social ranks, which is reasonable.
