○山伏（やまぶし）を修験道（しゆげんどう）とも
いふ真言（しんごん）の法（ほう）なり行（ぎやう）を
修（しゆ）し身（み）をこらし又 高（かう）
山（ざん）大山へのぼりて行（ぎやう）を
なすなり常（つね）に天文（てんもん）易（えき）
学（がく）をまなびて諸人（しよにん）の

○鷹（たか）は唐土（もろこし）五 帝（てい）の時

皇后（くわうごう）の御代（みよ）に百済（ひゃくさい）
国（こく）より始（はじめ）て鷹（たか）を奉
る其後（そのゝち）仁徳天皇（にんとくてんわう）の
御代（みよ）に唐（とう）より鷹を
献（けん）ぜしかば御猟（みかり）を催（もよほ）さ

【右丁 上段】
○山伏は修験道ともいう。真言宗の教えである。修行をして身を鍛え、また高い山や大きな山に登って修行を行う。常に天文学や易学を学んで、多くの人の運勢や八卦を占い、手相による吉凶、病気の軽重、失くし物の方角などを考える。また一派には役行者の教えを修行する者がある。これを行者の先達という。人の病気を祈祷する。垢離場がある。これを行者風呂という。
【左丁 上段】
○鷹は中国では五帝の時代から珍重されていたという。我が国に渡来したのは神功皇后の御代に百済国から初めて鷹を献上したのが始まりである。その後、仁徳天皇の御代に唐から鷹を献上したので、御狩りを催されて諸々の鳥を捕らせなさった。これが鷹狩りの始まりである。鷹は勇気が盛んで武備に関わる鳥であるから、武門に珍重されることはもっともなことである。

○Mountain ascetics (yamabushi) are also called practitioners of Shugendō. This is a teaching of the Shingon sect. They practice austerities to discipline their bodies, and also climb high mountains and great mountains to perform training. They constantly study astronomy and the I Ching to divine people's fortunes and the eight trigrams, and consider palm reading for good and bad fortune, the severity of illnesses, and the direction of lost objects. There is also a sect that practices the teachings of En no Gyōja. These are called the senior guides of ascetics. They pray for people's illnesses. There are purification grounds, which are called ascetic baths.

○Hawks have been prized in China since the time of the Five Emperors. Their arrival in our country began when Empress Jingū received the first hawk as tribute from the kingdom of Baekje. Later, during the reign of Emperor Nintoku, when hawks were presented from Tang China, imperial hunts were organized to catch various birds. This was the beginning of falconry. Since hawks have vigorous courage and are birds associated with military preparedness, it is natural that they are prized by the warrior class.
