○初祖（しよそ）達磨（たるま）は梁（りやう）の
武帝（ぶてい）にまみへ江をわた
りて魏（ぎ）の少林寺（せうりんじ）に入
たまふ世（よ）に芦葉（ろよう）の達（だる）
磨（ま）とも又は一 葦（ゐ）の達（だる）
磨（ま）ともいふ
○不動明王（ふどうみやうわう）右の手（て）に
利剣（りけん）を持（もち）左に搏（ばく）の縄（なわ）
を持（もち）給ふは衆生（しゆじやう）の邪悪（じやあく）
をいましめ給ふすがたなる
べし後（うしろ）の炎（ほのふ）は動（どう）ぜぬ
かたち又 凡人（ぼんにん）の怒（いかり）のていを
あらはし示（しめ）し給ふなるべし

○龍猛菩薩（りうみやうほさつ）は南天竺（なんてんぢく）
に出生（しゆつしやう）釈尊（しやくそん）より八百年
後（のち）なり真言宗（しんごんしう）第一の
祖（そ）なり大日 経（きやう）金剛頂（こんがうてう）経
蘇悉地経（そしつちきやう）を弘（ひろ）め給ふ
○善導大師（ぜんどうだいし）は唐土（もろこし）長（ちやう）
安（あん）の滝（たき）より出現（しゆつけん）し給ふ
三十 余年（よねん）少（すこし）も睡眠（すいみん）せ
ず唐（とうの）永隆（えいりう）二年三月十四
日 遷化（せんげ）
○天台（てんだい）大 師（し）は陳隋（ちんずい）二代
の国師（こくし）唐土（もろこし）天台宗（てんだいしう）の開（かい）
祖（そ）十一月廿四日六十歳にて

現代語訳
【右丁 上段】
○初祖達磨は梁の武帝に謁見し、江を渡って魏の少林寺に入られた。世に芦葉の達磨とも、また一葦の達磨とも言う。
○不動明王は右の手に利剣を持ち、左に縄を持たれているのは、衆生の邪悪を戒められる姿であろう。後ろの炎は動じない姿を表し、また凡人の怒りの様子を現し示されるのであろう。
【左丁 上段】
○龍猛菩薩は南天竺に生まれ、釈尊より八百年後の人である。真言宗第一の祖である。大日経、金剛頂経、蘇悉地経を広められた。
○善導大師は唐土長安の滝より出現された。三十余年、少しも睡眠せず、唐の永隆二年三月十四日に遷化された。
○天台大師は陳・隋二代の国師で、唐土天台宗の開祖である。十一月二十四日、六十歳で入滅された。智者大師とも言う。

○ The First Patriarch Bodhidharma had an audience with Emperor Wu of Liang, crossed the river, and entered Shaolin Temple in Wei. He is commonly called "Bodhidharma of the Reed Leaf" or "Bodhidharma of One Reed."
○ Fudo Myo-o (Acala) holds a sharp sword in his right hand and a rope in his left hand, which represents his form of admonishing the evil of sentient beings. The flames behind him represent his immovable nature and also manifest the appearance of ordinary people's anger.

○ Nagarjuna Bodhisattva was born in South India, eight hundred years after Shakyamuni Buddha. He is the first patriarch of the Shingon sect. He propagated the Mahavairocana Sutra, Vajrasekhara Sutra, and Susiddhikara Sutra.
○ Master Shandao appeared from a waterfall in Chang'an, China. For over thirty years, he never slept at all, and passed away on March 14th in the second year of Yonglong of the Tang dynasty.
○ The Great Master Tiantai served as national teacher during the Chen and Sui dynasties and was the founding patriarch of the Tiantai sect in China. He entered nirvana at age sixty on November 24th. He is also called Great Master Zhizhe.
