《割書：去年わが夫に茨菰の葉のたゞるゝ秋のすへ此西わんでわかれたがはや一とせもたち蓮の花の最中に｜なつたれどもまだかへらぬ妾がこゝろ夢にもうつゝにも去年別れた西湾江上の水をはなれず｜わかれた時分のこゝろもちでいつもあり〳〵と見るやうに思てゐる此ごろ人のいふを聞ばわが｜おつとは鳳凰山あたりにほうわうの雌雄の中のよいごとくほかにむつましいちかづきをもちて｜此方をばわすれてゐらるゝといふが若さうした事ならばうらめしい何ともふとゝきなきこへぬ｜人じやといふ詩意ならむ》【挿絵】
現代語訳
江南行
張潮
茨菰の葉が枯れて西湾で別れてから 蓮の花が咲いてもまだ帰らない
私の夢は江上の水を離れることがない 人は言う、あの人は鳳凰山にいると
《解説：去年わが夫と茨菰の葉の枯れる秋の末、この西湾で別れたが、はや一年も経ち蓮の花の最中になったけれども、まだ帰らない。私の心は夢にもうつつにも去年別れた西湾江上の水を離れず、別れた時分の心持ちでいつもありありと見るように思っている。このごろ人の言うのを聞けば、わが夫は鳳凰山あたりで鳳凰の雌雄の仲の良いごとく、ほかに睦まじい親しい人を持って、こちらのことを忘れていらっしゃるという。もしそうした事ならば恨めしい、何とも不届きな聞こえぬ人じゃという詩意であろう》【挿絵】

My dreams never leave the waters by the river People say my lord is at Phoenix Mountain
[Commentary: Last year I parted from my husband at the end of autumn when the arrowhead leaves were withering at this West Bay, but a full year has already passed and though it's now the height of lotus blooming season, he still hasn't returned. My heart, whether in dreams or waking, never leaves the waters of West Bay where we parted last year, and I always think of him as vividly as if seeing him with the same feelings from when we parted. Recently I hear people saying that my husband is around Phoenix Mountain, and like the harmonious pair of male and female phoenixes, he has found another intimate companion there and has forgotten about me. If such a thing were true, how resentful I would be - what an untrustworthy and unconscionable person he would be - such is the meaning of this poem.] [Illustration]
