猿が啼き、見送りの客も散って夕暮れの川辺で
人は自ずから心を痛め、水は自ずから流れている
同じく左遷された臣として、君はさらに遠くへ
青山万里の彼方へ一艘の孤独な舟で
《解説：さて、その方を送るときは日の暮れ方なので、猿も鳴いて見送り、見送りに来た客も散り散りにこの川辺を別れれば、行く者も送る者も心を痛ましめ、別れを悲しむのに、この河水は何の心もなく流れている。私もあなたも同じく都を追い退けられた左遷の臣であるけれども、その中でもあなたは又遠国へ流されて、青山万里の彼方へ孤舟を浮かべて行かれるのは痛ましいことである》

[Commentary: Now, when sending that person off, it is evening time, so the apes also cry in farewell, and the guests who came to see him off scatter here and there from this riverside. Both those who go and those who send them off pain their hearts and grieve at the parting, yet this river water flows without any feeling. Both you and I are exiled ministers who have been driven away from the capital, but among us, you are being banished to an even more distant country, floating a lonely boat toward the far side of ten thousand li of green mountains—this is truly a pitiful thing.]
