《割書：此／涼州（りやうしう）の一曲を金石の鳴（なり）ものに奏（さう）すれば曲といひみなきよらかに清（すみ）わたつてきこゆるおりふし辺土（へんと）の風の｜はげしく吹（ふき）蕭颯（しやうさつ）とものすごくして江城（こうじやう）をうごかす座中にわかき時分よりして此／沙場（さしやう）をまもりに｜来て老たる人があるほどに横笛（わうてき）の調子（ちやうし）にかならず塞上（さいしやう）の声（こえ）をふく出してくれるなそのこえをきく｜ならばものかなしからふほどにかまへてふくなと大／将（しやう）をなぐさむるなり》

《割書：只今其中においても紫宸殿（ししんてん）を朝参（てうさん）し義式（きしき）もすんで鴛鸞（えんらん）の行ごとく行烈（きやうれつ）をみださず帰るさに｜禁裏（きんり）のまわり丹鳳楼前（たんほうらうせん）に馬をとゞめてみれば京の風景（ふうけい）もいにしえよりは何もかもかはりはてゝ｜あるがたゞ終南山（しうなんさん）の色（いろ）のみ青〳〵として晴明とはれやかにして依旧（いきやう）ともとのごとくに相かはらず｜長安（ちやうあん）中にみちてとちらから見てもそびえてみゆる朝廷（てうてい）のやうすはすつへりかくへつじや》
現代語訳
辺将に宴す 張喬
一曲の梁州、金石清し 辺風蕭颯として江城を動かす
座中に沙場に老いたる客有り 横笛よ、塞上の声を吹くことを休めよ
《注釈：この涼州の一曲を金石の鳴り物で奏すれば、曲といい音といい皆清らかに澄み渡って聞こえる。折しも辺土の風が激しく吹き、蕭颯とものすごく江城を動かす。座中に若き時分よりこの沙場を守りに来て老いた人がいるほどに、横笛の調子に必ず塞上の声を吹き出してくれるな。その声を聞くならば物悲しかろうほどに、構えて吹くなと大将を慰めるのである》

紫宸朝罷んで鴛鸞を綴り、丹鳳楼前に馬を駐めて看る
唯だ終南山色の晴明、旧に依りて長安に満つる有るのみ
《注釈：只今その中においても紫宸殿を朝参し儀式も済んで、鴛鸞の行列の如く行列を乱さず帰る際に、禁裏の周り丹鳳楼前に馬を止めて見れば、京の風景も昔よりは何もかも変わり果ててあるが、ただ終南山の色のみ青々として晴明と晴れやかにして、依旧ともとの如くに相変わらず長安中に満ちて、どちらから見てもそびえて見える。朝廷の様子は衰えて寂寥たるものである》
英語訳
Banqueting with a Border General - Zhang Qiao
A single melody of Liangzhou, gold and stone instruments clear; border winds blow fiercely, shaking the river city
Among the seated guests is one grown old on the battlefield;横flute, cease playing the sounds of the frontier
Commentary: When this single melody of Liangzhou is played with gold and stone instruments, both the tune and sounds are clear and pure, echoing beautifully. At this moment, the harsh winds of the borderlands blow fiercely and ominously, shaking the river city. Among those seated is someone who came to guard this battlefield in his youth and has now grown old here. The horizontal flute inevitably plays the melancholy sounds of the frontier. If one were to hear those sounds, they would be deeply saddening, so please refrain from playing them - thus the general is comforted.

The purple palace court session ends, arranging the mandarin duck and phoenix procession; stopping horses before the Danfeng Tower to look
Only the colors of Mount Zhongnan remain, bright and clear as of old, filling Chang'an
Commentary: Just now, having attended court at the Purple Palace Hall with ceremonies completed, returning in orderly procession like mandarin ducks and phoenixes, when stopping horses around the imperial palace at Danfeng Tower to look, the scenery of the capital has completely changed from ancient times. However, only the colors of Mount Zhongnan remain blue-green, bright and clear as before, unchanging and filling Chang'an, towering majestically from every direction. The state of the court has declined and become desolate.
