現代語訳
《解説：一年過ぎれば初めてまた、いつも変わらぬ一年の春がある。人間の寿命は百歳が限りといえども、昔から百年まで生きたという者もない。亭主をなだめて、人は定めないものなれば、このように花前で酒宴などをするということは度々あるまいほどに、ご亭主も少々高くとも酒を買えば銭がいる、貧しいによって買えぬなどと辞退されるな。百年の人もなければ誰でもいつ死ぬかもしれぬなれば、飲んでしばらくも楽しむがよい》

《解説：そなたと私は親しい仲であるが、一月のうちにこのように出会して遊ぶことは度々はあるまい、まれなことであろう。今日このように相会った時ともども酒宴して楽しむがよい。なぜこのように言うかというと、眼前に見る春色の過ぎゆくことは流水のごとく、しばらくもとどまらぬものだ。昨日開いた花が早くも今日は散り落ちる。人間の寿命もこのごとく、今日あって明日を知らぬ身なれば、相会った時に杯を含み笑い楽しむがよいということなのだ》

《Commentary: When a year passes, there is again the beginning of another year's spring, unchanging as always. Though human lifespan is said to be limited to one hundred years, there has never been anyone from ancient times who lived to one hundred years. Persuading the host, since human life is uncertain, opportunities to hold banquets before flowers like this will not come often. Even if the host says the sake is a bit expensive and costs money to buy, and declines saying he cannot afford it due to poverty, do not accept such refusal. Since no one lives to one hundred years and anyone might die at any time, it is good to drink and enjoy ourselves for a while.》

When we meet like this today, it is good for us to feast together and enjoy ourselves. Why do I say this? Because the spring colors passing before our eyes are like flowing water that does not stay even for a moment. The flowers that bloomed yesterday have already fallen today. Human life is the same - having today but not knowing tomorrow, when we meet it is good to hold cups, laugh, and enjoy ourselves.》
