現代語訳
しかしながらある時、手負いになった化け物の死骸が親知らずの海辺に流れ着いたので、蛇鱗も立ち寄って見ると、手下の出端の死骸であったため、大いに驚き、引き上げて泣き悲しんだ。馬斗にも「これは私の家来です」と語って手厚く葬った。
これより蛇鱗は一人身となり、心細く思ったが、とにかく敵を討たなければ生きている甲斐がない身であるから、命をかけて敵を探そうと心を取り直した。

英語訳
However, at one point, the corpse of a wounded monster washed ashore at the beach of Oyashirazu. When Jarin went to look, he discovered it was the corpse of his retainer Shuttan, and was greatly shocked. He pulled the body ashore and wept bitterly. He told Bamasu, "This was my retainer," and gave him a proper burial.
From this point on, Jarin was completely alone and felt forlorn, but since he was someone for whom life had no meaning unless he avenged his enemy, he steeled his resolve to search for his foe even at the cost of his own life.
