○今橋（イマバシ） ●渥美郡吉田駅の旧名なり、天文の頃今川義元、今橋の
名／忌（イマ）はしと相通ふをいみて、吉田と改めしといへり、
●牛久保密談記には、吉田と号（ナヅケ）らるゝいはれは、此城築始し時、吉祥山
の奇瑞あればとて、吉字と牧野は本名田内なれば、其田字と合てかく
名づけし也といへり、
●宮島伝記には、永正年中牧野三成、天文儒者布施兵庫太夫泰
長といふものに、吉凶を考しむるに、易￣ノ爻辞に田（カリニ）穫＿二￣タリ三狐＿一得＿二￣タリ黄矢＿一￣ヲ貞￣シテ

現代語訳
○今橋（いまばし） ●渥美郡吉田駅の旧名である。天文の頃、今川義元が、今橋の
「今」が「忌まわしい」と音が通じるのを嫌って、吉田と改めたという。
●『牛久保密談記』には、吉田と名付けられた謂れは、この城を築き始めた時、吉祥山
の奇瑞があったので、吉の字と、牧野の本名が田内なので、その田の字と合わせてこのように
名付けたのだという。
●『宮島伝記』には、永正年中に牧野三成が、天文儒者布施兵庫大夫泰
長という者に、吉凶を考えさせたところ、易の爻辞に「田で狐を捕らえ黄色い矢を得て、占いをして
吉である」という上下の字を用いて改名したという。●『世諺弁略』巻二の二十四丁によると、もとは豊川の流れの
関屋口に初めて土橋を架けたので、今橋と号した。その後街道が変わり、今の所に板
橋を架けた。これより佳名を取って吉田と号したという。

英語訳
○Imabashi (Present Bridge) ●This is the old name of Yoshida Station in Atsumi District. Around the Tenbun era, Imagawa Yoshimoto disliked that "ima" (present) sounded similar to "imawashi" (detestable/ominous) and changed it to Yoshida.
●According to "Ushikubo Mitsudan-ki," the reason it was named Yoshida is that when they began building this castle, there was an auspicious omen at Mount Kisshō, so they combined the character for "kichi" (good fortune) with the character "ta" (rice field) from Makino's original name Tauchi.
●According to "Miyajima Denki," during the Eishō period, Makino Mitsunari had the Confucian scholar Fuse Hyōgo-dayū Yasunaga divine the auspicious and inauspicious aspects. From the I Ching hexagram text "hunting in the field, catching three foxes and obtaining yellow arrows, divination brings good fortune," they used the upper and lower characters to rename it. ●"Segen Benryaku" volume 2, folio 24 states that originally, when the first earthen bridge was built at Sekiya-guchi over the Toyokawa River flow, it was called Imabashi (Present Bridge). Later the highway changed, and a wooden bridge was built at the current location. From this, they took an auspicious name and called it Yoshida.

According to Sano Tomogyō's "Mikawa-koku Kikigaki," in Daiei 2, year of Mizunoe-uma, Makino Denzō Nobunari changed Imabashi to be called Yoshida, and Denzō's name was also changed to Tazan. Makino Minbu-dayū Narikatsu changed Isshiki Castle to be called Ushikubo Castle.
