大津
【本文】
ここで六が出ると一度に道が大きく開ける。聞くところによると勝負も六の張りが大きかった。しかし良い坪の周りで六が出て、関、坂下、水口、石部、草津、大津と張り当て。ここは双六も草津の宿中、三階の屋根の上に横に「大津」と札ばかり書いてある所。何もすることなし。
道中で何か擦れたような所もない。今までこんな所に当たれば、このように苦労はしないとは、もっともなことで、ごく当然。ここで六の裏目の一が出れば、すぐに京へ上ると、一の川が強くしたたれども、とんでもない。六の延びが出て、五つ余り宮へ帰るとは、おやおや、はからずも意外なことだ。

When a six comes up here, the path opens up greatly all at once. From what I hear, the betting stakes were also high when sixes came up. However, with a six appearing around the good spots, one hits Seki, Sakanoshita, Minakuchi, Ishibe, Kusatsu, and Otsu in succession. Here in this sugoroku game, in Kusatsu's inn quarter, on top of a three-story roof, only a sign reading "Otsu" is written horizontally. There's nothing to do.
There's nothing particularly troublesome along the journey. If one had landed on such spots until now, one wouldn't have struggled like this - that's quite reasonable and natural. If the reverse of six - a one - had come up here, one would go straight up to Kyoto, and though the Ichi River flows strongly, that's not what happened. Instead, an extended six came up, and returning to the shrine with five or more is quite unexpected - oh my, how unforeseen!
