品川
【本文】
殿は日本橋にて一を振りなさり、まず品川へ着くとも、回りは戸塚あたりまでは日のある内に楽に行かれるという積もりを、それでは賽の目の方に引きずられると、品川へ無理に着きなさったが、ここですごろくを出し、よくよく見れば、品川という所に「泊まり」と書いてなければ泊まる事、決してならずと、明くる朝まで残らず立ち竦みにする。これを背けば主命に背き、賽の目に背き、二つの命に背きますから、はて三つの命にこんな目に遭いますると、寝惚けた理屈を言う。

Shinagawa
【Main Text】
The lord rolled a one at Nihonbashi and first arrived at Shinagawa. Though he had planned that from there he could easily reach as far as Totsuka while there was still daylight, saying "if we're pulled along by the dice," he forcibly proceeded to Shinagawa. Here he brought out the sugoroku board, and looking closely, he saw that if the place called Shinagawa didn't have "lodging" written on it, one must absolutely not stay there, and everyone must remain standing upright until the next morning. If one disobeys this, it would go against the lord's command, go against the dice, going against two commands, so "alas, with three commands we meet such a fate" - he speaks such drowsy logic.
