開（ひら）く是（これ）則（すなはち）海棠（かいどう）の譜（ふ）に
のする所（ところ）の帚子海棠（そうしかいどう）

○怡顔斎が言うには「開花が最も早く、二月の春分の節気に咲く。これはおそらく海棠の図録に記載されている帚子海棠であろう。枝の先端に群がって生える。地膚や枝葉のようである。花は十分に開かず単弁である。」

Higanzakura (Equinox Cherry)

○ Iganasai says: "This blooms the earliest, flowering during the vernal equinox period in the second month. This is probably the Sōshi-kaidō (a type of flowering crabapple) recorded in crabapple catalogs. The flowers grow in clusters at the tips of branches. They resemble kochia or branch-and-leaf patterns. The flowers do not open fully and are single-petaled."
