大 輪（りん）も有小 輪（りん）も有 葉（は）出初（いでそむ）る時 青（あを）くして

身をうさゝまのうなかしそ行【注】
○活所翁曰 一重（ひとゑ）にして色白（いろしろ）く茎（くき）短（みじか）し
花 疎密（そみつ）の二 種（しゆ）あり其（その）密（こゞな）る物は大 輪（りん）
にして桐谷（きりがやつ）に似（に）たり又 樺桜（かばさくら）と名付く

現代語訳
大輪もあり小輪もある。葉が出始める時は青く、赤に変わるものもある。また吉野というものがある。萼から蕊まで青い。三英、四英ほど重なって付いているものを山桐谷という。大抵山桜は花がまばらである。

身をうさきまのうなかしそ行
○活所翁が言うには、一重咲きで色は白く、茎は短い。花のまばらなものと密なものの二種がある。その密に咲くものは大輪で桐谷に似ている。また樺桜と名付ける。

There are both large and small flowers. When the leaves first emerge they are blue-green, and some change to red. There is also one called Yoshino. From the calyx to the stamens it is blue-green. Those with about three or four layers overlapping and attached are called Yama-kirigaya. Generally, mountain cherries have sparse flowers.

○Elder Kassho says: Single-petaled with white color and short stems. There are two types - sparse and dense flowering. Those that bloom densely have large flowers and resemble Kirigaya. They are also named Kaba-zakura (Birch Cherry).
