現代語訳
子は同門ではないが、その為すことは先生の
余意であると云うのみである。予は疎才ながら筆を執り、遂に
その概要を述べてこれが序とする。甲尚がこの書を

怡顔斎桜品序
洛陽の牡丹、西蜀の海棠、日本の桜花は、単に「花」と称するだけで「之」と名を付けなくても、人は皆その牡丹であること、海棠であること、桜花であることを知っている。それが人に貴重なものとして重んじられていることが知られる。
古人が佐屈刺をもって漢土の桜桃に充てたのは、蓋し既に誤りであった。桜桃はこれすなわち郁李の属であって、佐屈刺とは全く別である。殊に我が邦の桜はすなわち垂糸

Preface to Igan-sai Cherry Varieties
The peonies of Luoyang, the begonias of Western Shu, and the cherry blossoms of Japan - merely calling them "flowers" without naming them specifically, everyone knows them to be peonies, begonias, and cherry blossoms respectively. That they are treasured and valued by people can be understood.
The ancients' use of "sakuranbo" (佐屈刺) to represent the cherry-peach (桜桃) of Chinese lands was indeed already an error. Cherry-peach is actually of the Prunus japonica family and is completely different from sakuranbo. Particularly, the cherry blossoms of our country are indeed weeping
