鹿児島（かごしま）より琉球（りうきう）へ往（ゆく）
道にみちの島と云所に
有花は正月 上元（しやうげん）に最（もつとも）
盛（さかり）也冬より芽（め）を生ず

薩摩緋桜（さつまひざくら）

○怡顔斎が言うには、薩摩に緋桜というものがある。名前は同じだが花の形は大きく異なる。薩摩国鹿児島から琉球へ行く道中にある「みちの島」という所にある。花は正月の上元（旧正月15日）に最も盛りとなる。冬から芽を出す。

Satsuma Hi-zakura (Satsuma Scarlet Cherry)

○Igensei says: There is a variety called hi-zakura in Satsuma. Though the name is the same, the flower form is greatly different. It is found at a place called "Michino-shima" on the route from Kagoshima in Satsuma Province to the Ryukyu Islands. The flowers reach their peak during Shōgen (the 15th day of the first lunar month). It begins to bud from winter.
