○怡顔斎曰 千弁（せんよう）にて枝（ゑだ）に密（こゝなり）て咲（さく）也
毬（まり）のごとし枝 曲折（きよくせつ）なし花 開（ひら）く事 最（もつとも）
遅（をそ）し是則 麗枝海棠（れいしかいどう）と称（せう）すべし花は
泰山（たいさん）と同但泰山は枝に曲折（きよくせつ）ありて花
疎（まばら）に貼（つく）也
○活所翁桜譜曰桐谷におなし微（すこ）し
赤（あか）し枝長く総（ふさ）まとかにして疎（まばら）なる所（ところ）有
虎尾（とらのを）の斑文（まだら）に似たるをもつて名とす
○鈍永曰又 紅虎尾（べにとらのを）といふもの有花形
虎尾にことなる事なし只 紅色（あかいろ）濃（こき）物

現代語訳
○怡顔斎が言うには、千の花弁を持ち、枝に密集して咲く。
毬のようである。枝に曲がりがない。花が開くのが最も
遅い。これはまさに麗枝海棠と称するべきである。花は
泰山と同じだが、ただし泰山は枝に曲がりがあって花が
まばらに付く。
○活所翁桜譜によれば、桐谷に同じで、わずかに
赤い。枝が長く、房状にまとまって、まばらな所がある。
虎の尾の斑模様に似ているので、この名前が付いた。
○鈍永が言うには、また紅虎尾というものがある。花の形は
虎尾と異なることはない。ただ紅色が濃いもの
である。
英語訳
○ Igan-sai says: It has a thousand petals and blooms densely on branches.
It is like a ball. The branches have no curves. The flowers open the latest.
This should indeed be called Reishi-kaidō. The flowers are
the same as Taizan, but Taizan has curved branches and flowers
that attach sparsely.
○ According to Kassho-ō's Cherry Compendium, it is the same as Kiritani, slightly
red. The branches are long, clustering in bunches, with sparse areas.
It is named after its resemblance to the striped pattern of a tiger's tail.
○ Don'ei says there is also something called Beni-toranoo (Red Tiger's Tail). The flower shape
is no different from Toranoo. It is just something with
deep red color.
