花弁の間（あいだ）に雑（まじり）て出花形しぼみたるが
ごとし奥州（おうしう）仙台（せんだい）にてこれを奈天（なでん）の桜と
いふ京師（みやこ）にて奈天（なでん）といふは犬（いぬ）桜の事也
○活所翁桜譜曰 塩竃（しほがま）に同し但花
中に二 葉（ば）出是其 異（ことなり）とす花（はな）鼻（はな）葉（は）歯（は）同
音（おん）也 象鼻（ぞうひ）出歯（しゆつし）の意にして普賢象（ふげんぞう）と
いふ
○鈍永曰芸花園にいふも大白（たいはく）千弁
淡色（うすいろ）を帯（お）び花中二ツの細葉（さいよう）出て
象鼻（ぞうび）のごとし或人云此花茎長して
下へ垂（たる）る故 普賢象（ふげんぞう）と云と也
現代語訳
花弁の間に混じって出る。花の形は萎んだようである。奥州仙台では、これを「なでん」の桜と言う。京都で「なでん」と言うのは犬桜のことである。
○活所翁桜譜によれば「塩竃桜と同じだが、ただし花の中に二枚の葉が出るのが、これがその違いである」。花・鼻・葉・歯は同音である。象の鼻が出た歯という意味で普賢象と言う。
○鈍永が言うには「『芸花園』に言うのも大白で千弁、淡い色を帯び、花の中に二つの細い葉が出て象の鼻のようである。ある人は言う『この花は茎が長くて下に垂れるので普賢象と言う』と」。
英語訳
They emerge mixed between the petals. The flower shape appears wilted. In Ōshū Sendai, this is called "naden" cherry. In Kyoto, what they call "naden" refers to the dog cherry.
○ According to the "Kasshōō Sakura-fu" (Cherry Genealogy by Elder Kasshō): "It is the same as Shiogama cherry, but the difference is that two leaves emerge from within the flower." Flower (hana), nose (hana), leaf (ha), and tooth (ha) are homophonous. It means "elephant's nose protruding teeth," hence it is called Fugen-zō.
○ Don'ei says: "What the 'Geika-en' (Flower Cultivation Garden) describes is also large white with a thousand petals, bearing a pale color, with two thin leaves emerging from within the flower like an elephant's trunk. Some people say that because this flower has long stems that droop downward, it is called Fugen-zō."
