○怡顔斎曰八重桜也
花小輪にして甚（はなはだ）やさしく
色赤し茎長く細し
伊勢大輔（いせのおほすけ）が歌によりて
好事（かうじ）のもの名とす
○鈍永いはく清輔（きよすけ）
袋草紙（ふくろざうし）に上東門院（しやうとうもんゐん）中宮（ちうくう）
と申（もう）せし時 伊勢大輔（いせのおほすけ）はじめて参（まい）る八重
桜 或人（あるひと）《振り仮名：進＿レ之｜これをすゝむ》件（くだん）の花を伊勢が前にさし
つかはし給ひ檀紙（だんし）御硯（おんすゞり）を前に置（をき）給ふ
時に人々 目（め）を付ていかゞ申と見（み）あへるに
硯（すゞり）引（ひき）よせて書（しよ）す御堂殿（みどうどの）とりて御覧（ごらん）

○怡顔斎が言うには「八重桜である。
花は小さな輪で、非常に優雅で
色は赤い。茎は長く細い。
伊勢大輔の歌によって
風雅を好む人々がこの名前をつけた」
○鈍永が言うには「清輔の
袋草紙に、上東門院が中宮
でいらした時、伊勢大輔が初めて参内した。八重
桜を、ある人がその花を伊勢の前に差し
与えられ、檀紙と御硯を前に置かれた。
その時人々は注目して『どのように詠むだろうか』と見守っていたところ、
硯を引き寄せて歌を書いた。御堂殿がお取りになってご覧になると

○ Igan-sai says: "This is a double cherry blossom.
The flowers are small in circumference and extremely graceful,
with a red color. The stems are long and slender.
People of refined taste gave it this name
based on the poem by Ise no Ohosuke."
○ Donnei says: "In Kiyosuke's
Fukuro-zōshi, when Jōtōmon-in was the Empress Consort,
Ise no Ohosuke first entered court service. When double
cherry blossoms were presented—someone offered those flowers before Ise
and placed fine paper and an inkstone before her.
At that moment, everyone watched intently, wondering 'How will she compose?'
She drew the inkstone closer and wrote a poem. When Lord Midō took it and looked at it,
