[The ceremonial abalone] was bestowed directly [by the lord], and after this concluded, at the Teppō-no-ma (Gun Room), the guard captains and gate guards all offered their respects, and after [the lord] withdrew to the inner chambers, they came forward in two lines to personally receive the ceremonial abalone.

presented through messengers.
Item: On the 29th day of the 1st month, regarding the previous inquiry (on the 16th of last month) made by letter about the timing of the lord's attendance in Edo, today a formal letter was delivered at the residence of the senior councilor.
"Your letter has been respectfully read.
The Shogun is in increasingly good spirits, which is most gratifying.
Regarding the matter of the sankin (alternate attendance) period, it should be inquired about when spring arrives. Following the formal letter presented in the old year requesting inquiry, the matter reached the Shogun's attention as described in your document. It has been decreed that after the same Echizen-no-kami returns to his domain, he should proceed to Edo. Please understand this intention. With utmost respect."
