以手紙得御意候此度虚無僧本寺京都明暗寺番僧
誓慎幷添役快毅両人宗門為取締罷下候所今月ゟ
七月迄逗留改候ニ付壱ケ月壱度宛吹笛廻在修行仕度
旨ヲ以文化七午年以来之約定成来ニ引違三ケ月分
三ケ度當之吹笛料受取度哉之旨南北同役手元へ
申出候趣も御坐候ニ付此節市中出會同役申談私両人
誓慎旅宿へ罷出一昨日ゟ重々彼是懸合ニ及是
迄之通一ケ度分受取帰京可仕様相行着申義ニ候得共
先日以来添役快毅北方筋へ罷出處三ケ度分受取
度申分も有之趣ニ付申出ニ任せ容易ニ相渡可申筈
者無御座候得共兎哉角懸合相厭聊之事故い
つそ相渡遣候方宜抔御心得違之村方も難計ニ付
為念御通達ニ相及申義ニ候間御組村々庄屋分被召呼
右之趣篤と御心得させ可被成候且此書状先々
少も無遅滞御廻達被成度候右為可得御意如此

手紙をもって御意を得ました。この度、虚無僧の本寺である京都明暗寺の番僧である誓慎並びに添役の快毅両人が、宗門取締のため下向してきたところ、今月から七月まで逗留することになりました。ついては、一ヶ月に一度ずつ吹笛廻在修行をしたい旨を申し出て、文化七午年以来の約定に従来と違って、三ヶ月分三回分の当吹笛料を受け取りたいとの趣旨を南北の同役の手元へ申し出た様子もございます。そのため、この度市中で出会った同役と相談し、私ども両人で誓慎の旅宿へ参り、一昨日より重々あれこれと交渉に及び、これまで通り一回分を受け取って帰京するよう話がまとまったところでございますが、先日来添役の快毅が北方筋へ参ったところ、三回分を受け取りたいとの申し分もあった様子で、申し出に任せて容易に相渡しするはずはございませんが、とかく交渉を嫌がり、些細なことなのでいっそ渡してやる方がよいなどと心得違いをする村方も計り知れないため、念のため御通達に及ぶ次第でございます。御組の村々の庄屋分をお召し呼びになり、右の趣旨をよくお心得させるようになさってください。またこの書状を先々少しも遅滞なく御廻達くださいますよう。右の件についてお知らせするため、このように申し上げます。以上

We have received your communication by letter. On this occasion, the temple monk Seishin from Myōan-ji Temple in Kyoto, which is the head temple of komusō monks, along with his assistant Kaiki, both came down to oversee religious sect affairs and will be staying from this month until July. They have requested to conduct flute-playing pilgrimage training once per month, and contrary to the established agreement since Bunka 7 (1810), they have applied to our fellow officials in the north and south districts to receive three months' worth of flute-playing fees in three installments.
Therefore, meeting with fellow officials in the city, we two officials visited Seishin's lodging and have been engaged in various negotiations since the day before yesterday. Although we reached an agreement that he should receive payment for one time only and return to Kyoto as has been the custom, since the assistant Kaiki went to the northern district area recently and apparently made claims to receive payment for three times, we cannot easily hand over payment just because he requested it. However, since some village areas may grow weary of negotiations and mistakenly think it would be better to just give him the money since it's a trivial matter, we are notifying you as a precaution.
Please summon the village headmen of the villages in your group and ensure they thoroughly understand this matter. Also, please circulate this letter to the various areas without any delay. We are writing thus to inform you of this matter. The above.
