御奉公可仕元ゟ兼而被仰出有之事ゆへ明年
御免可仰付とハ相心得可罷在候得共此度御手傳
被蒙仰候ニ付而ハ人々疑惑之筋も可有之哉と
被召思候ニ付今日幸執も出仕之事ゆへ
御隠居様ゟ右之趣噺聞置候様御沙汰被為
在候間一統難有相心得可申且支配有之面々ハ
支配之者へも能々申聞為相心得候様可仕候事
○【朱】二十一 菊作之義ニ付御趣意非仰付御書付写
嘉永元申年八月四日
近比菊作り之義流行之趣右之内ニハ高直之
菊等相求メ又ハ花檀向も大造花美ニ仕立
候類も有之義ニも相聞候勿論草花之義
人々慰ニ作り候義ハ子細も無之事ニ候得共
近比之懸り他之菊ニ相劣不申様之心得ゟ
自然花美高直之價等ニも不心寄不都合ニ
も相到候ニ付心得も有之度事ニ候間
現代語訳
御奉公すべきは元より兼ねて仰せ出しある事ゆえ、明年御免仰せ付けられるとは心得ておるべきであるが、この度御手伝いを仰せ蒙ることについては、人々疑惑の筋もあろうかと思し召しになることにより、今日幸い重役も出仕のことゆえ、御隠居様より右の趣旨を話し聞かせ置くよう御沙汰なされたので、一同ありがたく心得申すべきである。また支配のある面々は支配の者へもよくよく申し聞かせ心得させるよう致すべきことである。

嘉永元年申年八月四日
近頃菊作りの義が流行の趣、その内には高価な菊等を求め、または花壇なども大層華美に仕立てる類もあるということも聞いている。もちろん草花の義で人々慰みに作る義は差し支えないことであるが、近頃の懸りで他の菊に劣らぬようにとの心得から、自然と華美で高価な値段等にも心寄せず不都合にも至ることにより、心得ておきたいことであるので

Recently, chrysanthemum cultivation has become fashionable. Among this trend, it is heard that some people are purchasing expensive chrysanthemums or creating very elaborate and beautiful flower gardens. Of course, there is nothing wrong with people growing flowers and plants for their own enjoyment. However, recently, due to the desire not to be inferior to others' chrysanthemums, people naturally pay no heed to the expense of elaborate and costly varieties, leading to inappropriate situations.
