多摩川は砂地が広々として開けており、その流れは一定ではなく、多くの場合、雨が降った後などには渡し場が移動して定まることがない。西北には秩父および甲州の諸山を望み、東南は堤防が斜めに連なっているのを見る。鮎をこの川の名産とする。夏秋の間に多く獲れる。そのため、常に漁師が絶えることがない。

The Tama River has wide, open sandy areas, and its flow is not consistent. In many cases, especially after rainfall, the ferry crossings shift and are never fixed in one place. To the northwest, one can see the mountains of Chichibu and various peaks of Koshu Province, while to the southeast, embankments extend diagonally. Ayu (sweetfish) are the specialty of this river. They are abundant during summer and autumn. Therefore, fishermen are always present without interruption.
