での小児に多い。その初期は夜間に熱を発し、少し空咳をしてその響きが嗄れ、昼間は玩具などで戯れ、少しも苦しそうな様子がなく、素人はただ一通りの風邪と軽視し、薬も与えず温かくもしないため、ついに救うことができない重症に陥るのである。誠に恐ろしい病気であるから、少しでも嗄れた咳を発するときは早く手当てを行い、かつ医師を招いて治療を請うべきである。病気にかかった小児には他の児童を近寄らせないよう用心すべきである。
医師の来診が遅い時は早く足湯または腰湯をさせ

［方法は熱すぎない湯で両足を温め、しばらくして出し、よく拭いて直ちに暖かな寝床に寝かせ、次の薬を飲ませるべきである。ただし足湯をする時は腰より上はよく衣類で包み冷えないようにすべきである］かつ木綿布を二重三重に折り、水に浸し、絶えず咽喉の上を冷やすべきである。薬法は色々あるけれども、劇薬は素人が取り扱う時はかえって過ちを生じるものであるから、医者が来ない間、或いは医師のいない地域では次の薬を与え、医師の来診を待つべきである。
