隅田川（すみたかは）の堤（つゝみ）をうちみれは
青柳（あをやき）の放髪（ふりわけかみ）も緑（みとり）の眉（まゆ）
にほひやかにかきたれ莟（つほめ）る
花（はな）のほころひそめて
ゑまひ
つくらふなんと
立（たち）ましりたる夕はえいと
えむなりわきて咲みちぬる
ひとえたはたか挿頭（かさし）にや
手折らんとさすかに心の

春景
はるばると
霞がかかっている
隅田川の堤を見渡せば
青柳の垂れ髪も緑の眉のように
美しく香りやかに垂れ下がり、蕾んでいる
花がほころび始めて
笑みを
作っているようで
立ち交じっている夕映えは実に
美しいことだ。とりわけ咲き満ちている
一重桜はどうして髪飾りに
手折ろうかと、さすがに心が
とまる木の下
なのであろう

Spring Scene
Far and wide
mist spreads across—
looking out over the embankment of Sumida River,
the drooping branches of green willows like cascading hair
and verdant eyebrows
hang down fragrant and beautiful, while budding
flowers begin to bloom,
seeming to create
smiles,
and the evening glow standing intermixed is truly
beautiful. Especially the single-petaled cherry blossoms blooming in profusion—
surely these are meant for hair ornaments,
and as one thinks to pluck a branch, naturally the heart
lingers beneath these trees
