現代語訳
狐の方では、この頃産女というものの勧めによって、美しい雪女を囲い、少し戦の準備も遠のいて一息ついていた。
雪女は見越し入道より遣わされた者となり、狐には何度も良い機会があったけれども、狐はまたこの女を怪しく思い、大変な色男に化けているので、かえって雪女は狐の色気に迷い、見越し入道の手立てを残らず話してしまう。
「狸さん、お前を殺して、寒い時に火に当てて金玉を広げさせ、焼け石を入れて殺せとのことでございます。この一大事を打ち明ける代わりに、狐さんと夫婦になるように取り持ってください。」
「俺の金玉の広がることをよく知っているな。油断のならぬ。てめえの頼み、承知承知。」
【狐の台詞】
「何だと、俺の首をかくつもりだと。気味が悪い。」
英語訳
On the fox's side, recently at the suggestion of a ubume (birthing spirit), he had taken in a beautiful snow woman and had relaxed his war preparations somewhat, taking a breather.
The snow woman had been sent as an agent by Mikoshi-nyūdō, and although there were many good opportunities with the fox, the fox found this woman suspicious. Since he had transformed into a great lover, the snow woman instead became enchanted by the fox's charm and revealed all of Mikoshi-nyūdō's plans.
"Tanuki-san, I was told to kill you, then when it's cold, place you by the fire to make your testicles expand, insert heated stones, and kill you. In exchange for revealing this crucial secret, please help me become husband and wife with Fox-san."
"You know well about my testicles expanding. Can't let my guard down. Your request - agreed, agreed."

"What? You intend to cut off my head? How disturbing."
