現代語訳
ここにまた、もものじいという夫婦者は、娘が今日立ち帰るか明日は仕送りが終わって帰るかと思いの外、この頃は狐が女房になり、一大事を打ち明けたという噂があるので、この事を見越し入道へ忠信しようと相談する。
「本当に仕送りが終わったなら、ご褒美の金をもらって、二人ながら隠居になって、帆待ち（臨時の仕事）で人を騙して楽しもうと思っていたのに、こんな事になりました。」
「色は思案の外とは言えど、だらしない奴だ。捨ててはおけない。入道様へ申し上げよう。」

もものじいの忠信によって、見越し入道は大いに立腹し、「もはや化け物どもを駆り集めて討って取ろう」と思い立つ。
すでにその日の装束には、黒糸縅の鎧に童子格子の直垂を着して、鉄棒を斜めに構え、いつもより三尺ほど首を伸ばし、諸々の化け物へ下知をなす。
「なんと思いやる。初めて具足というものを着てみたが、こいつは消えてなくなる時にちと重くて消えにくかろう。」
英語訳
Here again, an elderly couple called Momojii were wondering whether their daughter would return today or tomorrow after finishing her work sending money, but unexpectedly, recently there were rumors that the fox had taken a wife and revealed crucial secrets, so they consulted about reporting this matter loyally to Mikoshi-nyūdō.
"If the money-sending work had truly been completed, we would have received reward money, and both of us could have retired and enjoyed ourselves by deceiving people with temporary work like hatimachi. But now things have come to this."
"Though they say 'love is beyond reason,' what a slovenly fellow. We cannot let this slide. We must report to Lord Nyūdō."

Based on Momojii's loyal report, Mikoshi-nyūdō became greatly enraged and resolved, "Now I shall gather all the monsters and attack to capture them."
Already dressed for that day in black silk-laced armor with a dōji-gōshi patterned hitatare, holding an iron staff at an angle, extending his neck about three shaku longer than usual, he gives orders to the various monsters.
"How thoughtful of me. I've worn armor for the first time, but this thing will be a bit heavy and difficult to vanish with when it's time to disappear."
