夫人の生を養ふは天地の万物を養ふ道にして私の
ことに非す然るを私意を以て古人の立置給ふ所の
養生の道を狂し蔑にするはおろかなりといふべし
如何となれば山川草木鳥獣魚鼈に至迄こと〳〵く
天地の理に随て己か性を養なはさるはなし独人間
而已万物の霊たるによつて天地の道を弁へ知るを
以て殊に慎み行ふへき筈なれと却而麤末なるも
の多し然とも上人（よきひと）は其伝師侍従あつて天地の

人間が生命を養うということは、天地の万物を養う道理と同じであって、個人的なことではない。それなのに私的な考えで、古人が定め置かれた養生の道を乱し軽視するのは愚かなことだと言うべきである。なぜかといえば、山川草木から鳥獣魚鼈に至るまで、ことごとく天地の理に従って自らの本性を養わないものはない。ひとり人間だけが万物の霊長であることによって天地の道を理解し知ることができるのだから、特に慎み行うべきはずなのに、かえって粗末にする者が多い。しかし立派な人は、その伝承する師や従者がいて天地の

On the Cultivation of Life
The cultivation of human life follows the same principle as nurturing all things of heaven and earth, and is not a private matter. Yet it is foolish to corrupt and despise the way of life cultivation established by the ancients based on selfish thoughts. Why is this so? Because from mountains, rivers, plants and trees to birds, beasts, fish and turtles, all things without exception nourish their own nature in accordance with the principles of heaven and earth. Humans alone, being the most spiritual of all creatures, are able to understand and know the Way of heaven and earth, so they should especially act with prudence. Yet on the contrary, many treat it carelessly. However, virtuous people have their transmitted teachers and attendants who [understand] heaven and earth's
