【上地】世渡るわさこそ物うけれ
【シテ上】あさましや人界に生を受けなから
かゝる浮世に明暮し身を苦し
むる悲しさよ【ワキサシ】はかなの人の
ことの葉や先生身をたすけて
こそ仏身をねかふたよりもあれ

【上地】世を渡る仕事こそが物憂いのです
【シテ上】ああ情けない、人間界に生を受けながら
このような浮世で明け暮れし、身を苦しめる
悲しさよ【ワキサシ】はかない人の
言葉ですが、まず自分の身を救ってこそ
仏の身を願うよりも大切なのです

【Jōchi】The work of making one's way through the world is truly melancholy
【Shite-jō】How pitiful! Though born into the human realm,
spending dawn to dusk in this floating world, the sadness
of tormenting one's body【Wakisashi】These are the fleeting words
of a person, but first one must save oneself
rather than praying for Buddha-hood
