現代語訳
嘘の皮
嘘という獣は形がムササビのようで、目から鼻へと抜け出る通力を得て人を惑わすものである。面の皮が厚く、舌は二枚あって、舌鼓には毛のない獣である。その昔、目っぽう弥八、まんざらの万八という（万のうち真のことは八つしかない）両人の猟師が空鉄砲を撃ってこれを討ち取ったという。
また一名を素破の皮ともいう。財布に作ったものを「素破の皮の皮財布」というのである。

注連縄の兎をついに逃がしたから、この獣を捕らえて殺そうとして困っているそうだ。

The Hide of Lies
The beast called "Lie" has a form like a flying squirrel and possesses supernatural power that flows from its eyes to its nose, deceiving people. Its facial skin is thick, it has two tongues, and it is a beast with no hair on its tongue-drum (throat). Long ago, two hunters named Meppō Yahachi and Manzara no Manhachi (meaning "of ten thousand things, only eight are true") are said to have shot and killed it with blank shots.
It is also called by another name: "the hide of a spy." When made into a purse, it is called "a purse made from spy hide."
