現代語訳
どぶから蛇
この蛇は毎年六月一日の富士祭りの後、あちこちの溝の中から現れる蛇である。
眼は真鍮の鋲のようで、舌と尻尾の剣とは梅漬けのように赤く、身体は麦藁のように黄金色に光る。
足はないけれども、なんにでもよく巻きつく。
大きいものもあり、小さいものもあり、怖くもなんともない蛇である。

英語訳
The Ditch Snake
This snake appears every year from various ditches after the Fuji Festival on the first day of the sixth month.
Its eyes are like brass studs, its tongue and tail-sword are red like pickled plums, and its body shines golden like wheat straw.
Though it has no legs, it coils around anything well.
There are large ones and small ones - it's a snake that isn't frightening at all.
