爪の火
爪の火というのは、貪欲の大きい者の怨念である。
これは一生天道に背いた利益をむさぼり、不浄のことばかりして身を苦しめ、多くの金を蓄えて死んだ人が黒闇地獄に落ちて、貪欲の暗闇に迷い、このように爪に火を灯して現世に残しておいた金を探し求めようとするのである。
浅ましいことではないか。
恐ろしい執念だ。

うどんげの花
うどんげの花は三千年に一度花が咲くという、あの優曇華のように世界に稀なものではないけれど、味わい深いものは少ない。この花の元は「ひもかわ」の辺りに、小さい葉は切り麦のようで、花が筒のような花を咲かせ、胡椒に似た実を結ぶという。
うどんげの花待ちえたると曽我兄弟が台詞は、この花のことである。【注】
「珍しい花でございます。この鉢植えを持って、もっと良い所へうどんの屋台を出したい」

This occurs when someone who spent their entire life pursuing profits contrary to divine will, engaging only in impure acts that tormented their soul, and accumulating much wealth, falls into the Dark Hell after death. Lost in the darkness of their own greed, they light fires on their fingernails like this, seeking the money they left behind in this world.
Is this not a most wretched thing?

Udongge Flower
The udongge flower is said to bloom once every three thousand years. Though it is not as rare in the world as the legendary udumbara flower, few possess such profound flavor. The source of this flower is near the "himokawa" (flat noodles), with small leaves like cut wheat, flowers that bloom in tube-like shapes, and bearing fruit resembling pepper.
The line spoken by the Soga brothers about "waiting for the udongge flower to bloom" refers to this flower. [Note]
"What a rare flower this is! I'd like to take this potted plant and set up my noodle stall in an even better location."
