かねのなるきはよのなかに
たへてなきものゝやうにおもへども
さにあらずみなにん〳〵の【人人の？】
いへ〳〵にありてそのたねをしよぢ【所持】
すれどもかぎやう【家業】におこたりつとむる
ことおろそかなるがゆへにしんだい
のぢめんあれちとなり
もとでのはたけこやし
すけなくたねをまきても
はなさきみのることなし
おゝいなるふうきは
てんにあれとも
小なるふうきはつとむるに
ありそれ〳〵のすぎはひに
おこたらざるときは
あにかねのなるきならんや
かねのなるきはいかなる

現代語訳
金のなる木
金のなる木は世の中にまったくないもののように思われるけれども、そうではない。皆、人々の家々にあって、その種を所持しているけれども、家業に怠り、勤めることをおろそかにするがゆえに、心田の地面が荒地となり、元手の畑に肥やしが足りなく、種を蒔いても花が咲き実がなることがない。大いなる風気（運）は天にあれども、小なる風気は勤めることにある。それぞれの生業に怠らない時は、どうして金のなる木でないことがあろうか。
金のなる木とはいかなるものかというと、まず商人の家の金のなる木は、花は真鍮の象の形のごとく、葉は符丁紙のごとく、実は算盤の玉のごとし。

職人の金のなる木は、花は鉋屑のごとく、葉は小手に似て、のみのごとき実を結ぶ。百姓の金のなる木は、花は早乙女の笠のごとく、葉は鋤・鍬にして、五穀の実りがある。侍の金のなる木は、花は的のごとく、葉は木刀のごとく、矢のごとくして、鉄砲玉のような実を結ぶ。
士農工商、皆それぞれに家業の田畑を耕して、金のなる木を蓄え給え。合点か、合点か。これほどの道理は三つ子も知ることであるけれども、言われてみなければ怠りがある。
わが講釈を笑う人があらば笑い給え。

The Money Tree
The money tree seems to be something that doesn't exist at all in this world, but that is not so. Everyone has one in their household and possesses its seeds. However, because they neglect their family trade and are careless in their work, the ground of their hearts becomes wasteland, their capital fields lack fertilizer, and even when they sow seeds, no flowers bloom nor fruit bear. Great fortune lies with heaven, but small fortune lies in diligent work. When one does not neglect their respective livelihood, how could it not be a money tree?
What kind of thing is the money tree, you ask? First, the money tree of a merchant's house has flowers like the shape of a brass elephant, leaves like code papers, and fruit like abacus beads.

The craftsman's money tree has flowers like wood shavings, leaves resembling trowels, and bears fruit like chisels. The farmer's money tree has flowers like rice-planting maidens' hats, leaves that are hoes and plows, and bears the fruit of five grains. The samurai's money tree has flowers like targets, leaves like wooden swords and arrows, and bears fruit like musket balls.
Let all classes - samurai, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants - each cultivate the fields of their family trade and accumulate their money trees. Do you understand? Do you understand? Even a three-year-old child knows such reasoning, but without being told, there is negligence.
