蟄居並びに囲

一、享保15年戌9月21日、嶋田宇右衛門の件で、御側廻りの勤務方法が御意に応じない趣があったため、思召しの趣を御使として笹治権右衛門・水谷織部を以て酒井玄蕃方へ御意の趣を仰せ遣わし、早速右の取り扱いがあった。右の権右衛門・織部へ御意がない以前に、上月武左衛門の件で御前へ召され御意を遊ばされたのは、「嶋田宇右衛門の件は兼ねてより勤務方法が御意に応じないが、この節まで随分と御堪忍遊ばされたところ、最早そのようにはし難く遊ばされる。これにより後刻、権右衛門・織部を以て御家老中へ思召しの趣を仰せ遣わされる。その方も御目代を相勤めているので仰せ聞かされる間、左様に心得るように」との御意であった。

　　ただし宇右衛門の件は元文3年午9月15日に御勘気御免

一、蟄居を仰せ付けられた者の屋敷近所へ組の者2人を付け置き、帰る際は遠見として組の者2人を遣わすこと

　　右は元文5年申5月19日の加藤茂兵衛蟄居の節このように、同年の秋田八兵衛の節も同断

一、寛保2年戌8月13日、高家山川右膳の不行跡で宜しくない品があり隠居を仰せ付けられ、嫡子隼太方に蟄居を仰せ付けられた。右膳の件で水戸多仲を以て剃髪仕りたい旨を相伺ったところ【朱書き】不審本のまま、逼塞を仰せ付けられた者の件は勝手次第の旨を主馬方が申し聞かされた。

　　ただし延享元年子12月3日、山川遷木の件で病死した趣が御聴に達し、御咎めを成し置かれた者の件であるが、家柄の件でもあるゆえ御勘気を成し御免候。隼太を相応に取り扱うべき旨が仰せ出され、もっとも他の例にはならない義である旨、この段を隼太へ申し聞かせるべき旨を水戸多仲へ申し渡された。

一、元文5年申6月25日、寄合秋田八兵衛に不届きの件があり、拝知600石を召し上げられ、弟金治方に蟄居《割書：金治へ500石を下される》

　　ただし

一、安永9年子12月26日、雨森平八郎の嫡子熊蔵に蟄居を仰せ付け置かれたところ、出家をしたい旨を願い御免になったこと

一、宝暦8年寅9月22日、薗田七郎へ御書付を以て仰せ渡されたのは、「薗田忠左衛門の継母に宜しくない儀共がある段を相聞いた。忠左衛門方に押し込み差し置くべし。一家のことであるから、その方へ仰せ付ける」旨

1. Kyōhō 15, year of the dog, 9th month, 21st day: Regarding Shimada Uemon, whose manner of service in attending the lord did not meet with approval, the lord's intentions were conveyed through messengers Sasaji Gonemon and Mizutani Oribu to Sakai Genba, and the matter was promptly handled. Before the lord's intentions were conveyed to Gonemon and Oribu, Kōzuki Busaemon was summoned before the lord, who stated: "Although Shimada Uemon's manner of service has long not met with approval, I have shown considerable forbearance until now, but can no longer continue to do so. Therefore, later I will send Gonemon and Oribu to convey my intentions to the senior councilors. Since you also serve as deputy, I am informing you so that you may understand accordingly."

However, Uemon's case: his punishment was pardoned on Gembun 3, year of the horse, 9th month, 15th day.

This was done for Katō Mohei's house arrest on Gembun 5, year of the monkey, 5th month, 19th day, and the same for Akita Hachibe in the same year.

1. Kanpō 2, year of the dog, 8th month, 13th day: High-ranking retainer Yamakawa Uzen had misconduct and improper behavior, was ordered into retirement, and his son Hayata was sentenced to house arrest. Regarding Uzen's request through Mito Tanaka to have his head shaved [red notation: suspicious, original text as is], it was conveyed by Shume that those sentenced to confinement could do as they pleased.

However, on Enkyō 1, year of the rat, 12th month, 3rd day, when it reached the lord's attention that Yamakawa Senki had died of illness, although he was under punishment, considering his family status, his punishment was pardoned. It was ordered that Hayata should be treated appropriately, though this should not serve as precedent for others. This was to be conveyed to Hayata through Mito Tanaka.

1. Gembun 5, year of the monkey, 6th month, 25th day: Yoriai Akita Hachibe committed misconduct, his stipend of 600 koku was confiscated, and he was sentenced to house arrest at his brother Kinji's residence. [marginal note: Kinji was granted 500 koku]

1. An'ei 9, year of the rat, 12th month, 26th day: Amemori Heihachirō's son Kumazō, who had been sentenced to house arrest, requested to become a monk and was pardoned.

1. Hōreki 8, year of the tiger, 9th month, 22nd day: It was conveyed to Sonoda Shichirō through written notice: "I have heard that Sonoda Chūzaemon's stepmother has been engaging in improper conduct. She should be confined to Chūzaemon's residence. Since this is a family matter, I am entrusting this to you."
