一御侍之通路与力ニ而いたし候儀数々有之猶御咎ニ付諸事之条　天保四巳六月十六日久野作右衛門
　御咎之節鈴木忠太夫御家老中へ申達候儀有之
一天保四巳十月若林周四郎押込之節御城代与力堀音三郎致通路候事
一文化五辰四月九日柄田権之丞通路久世久次郎申聞候ハ今日拙者昼当番ニ而罷出候跡
　自然近火其外急変之儀有之候ハヽ一家之内原田十兵衛渥美助左衛門両人之内罷越候尤其
　節ハ相達可申旨此段承置呉候様断申聞候事

一延享二丑八月廿一日嶋田新右衛門遠慮申付候処通路之儀親類共申談役方へ可相願儀其
　儀無之芦田図書家来依田左内身近キ者ニ候得ハ一家共申談可致通路例其沙汰ニ不及
　不念ニ付左内儀呵候而押込置候様可被申付旨図書へ可相達旨御目付長谷部小右衛門へ被仰渡候事

一享保元申八月廿四日嶋田内蔵助遠慮之節之留ニ
　　閉門之者ハ親類之内願候而用事相達候遠慮之者ハ医者等手前へ呼申外ハ自分之取扱之筈ニ候得共内蔵助届ニ而遠慮
　　中病用医者抔呼申儀其外之用事等松原右衛門ニ為相達旨故右之通右衛門ニ為取扱候　但右遠慮中忰宇右衛門江戸ゟ被召内蔵介蟄居

　達候ニ付通路被申渡候由此以後ハ軽キ遠慮ニ而も親類共之内壱人通路之儀御家老中へ相伺可被申渡旨

　　但御書院番組新番組中之儀ハ前々ゟ御家老中へ相伺来候由
　右ハ去十六日御腰物奉行立岩九太夫御役御取揚大御番組へ被入伺之上遠慮被仰付候節太田三弥御番組河崎三郎兵衛通
　路致度旨筆頭を以番頭へ相願候処番頭差図迄ニ而通路被申渡ニ付月番海福忠左衛門ゟ采女方へ以後右取扱
　相定り候様ニと申達置候処如此
一同十七子六月十八日御家中閉門并遠慮之者方へ一家共通路之節此方仲間月番へ相達候品今日
　酒井与三左衛門方へ相伺候処左之通相究置様ニ被申聞候
　一閉門被仰付候者方へ致通路候一類之者通路致候度々ニ御番頭并致通路候者ゟ御目付共迄相断筈
　一上ゟ遠慮被仰付候者方へ致通路候一類之者通路致候度々相断筈

　留有之此後元文之頃も通路之仁家来遣候事通例也尤自分ニも罷越候事且又毎日致通路候ニ而も無之一日置二日置位之断有之事
一同廿卯八月十六日稲葉采女方与力岩崎与一右衛門采女方ゟ遠慮被申付候本多縫殿方家来福岡八郎右衛門と申者○続有之ニ付　通路
　之儀月番西尾源太左衛門へ問合有之八郎右衛門致通路苦かる間敷旨致挨拶則致通路候留有之
一元文三午四月大御番組当番所御用箱受取渡不念不念ニ付夫々遠慮被仰付候節通路之面々月番同役方へ達候
　趣日々自身罷越或ハ使差越候旨区々ニ相見得候事尤御番頭組ニ而之通路也
一延享四卯正月廿二日中根靱負申聞候ハ御番組溝口市左衛門儀仙石庄右衛門逼塞之通路願之通被仰付候処市左衛門痛所有之歩行難成ニ付忰金五太夫
　名代差越度段相願其段御家老中へ相達候処其通可申聞旨被申聞其段市左衛門へ申渡候旨断申聞候以後忰或ハ家来遣候旨断申聞ル廿五日

一寛延元辰二月廿二日松平主馬方被申聞候ハ拙者与力屋代藤治右衛門義松井平兵衛方へ通路致度旨相願ニ付其通被申付候由断被申聞候藤治右衛門義も右之趣相達候
一同日稲葉采女申聞候ハ坂部多曽右衛門義只今迄相伺致遠慮罷在候処猶又此度従上遠慮被仰下候依之家来坂部久左衛門只今迄通路為致候へ共
　兄弟之義ニ候間此者遠慮も為仕指置可申哉最前相伺通路為致候間相伺呉候様ニ申聞其段松平主馬方へ申達候処陪臣之義候間遠慮ニ不及旨ニ而
　其通采女申聞候処左候ハヽ通路之儀其儘為致度旨ニ付是又相達候処勝手次第致候様ニ被申聞其段采女へ申聞候

現代語訳

一、御侍の通路を与力にて行う儀が数々あり、なお御咎めにつき諸事の条　天保四年六月十六日久野作右衛門御咎めの節、鈴木忠太夫が御家老中へ申し達した儀がある

一、天保四年十月、若林周四郎押込の節、御城代与力堀音三郎が通路を行った事

一、文化五年四月九日、柄田権之丞通路の久世久次郎が申し聞いたのは「今日拙者は昼当番にて罷り出た跡、自然近火その外急変の儀があれば、一家の内原田十兵衛・渥美助左衛門両人の内が罷り越す。もっともその節は相達し申すべき」旨、この段承知置いてくれるよう断り申し聞いた事

一、延享二年八月二十一日、嶋田新右衛門遠慮を申し付けたところ、通路の儀を親類共が申し談じ役方へ相願うべき儀、そのことはなく、芦田図書の家来依田左内は身近き者であるならば一家共が申し談じ通路を行うべき例である。その沙汰に及ばず不念につき、左内の儀を叱って押込み置くよう申し付けるべき旨を図書へ相達すべき旨を、御目付長谷部小右衛門へ仰せ渡された事

一、享保元年八月二十四日、嶋田内蔵助遠慮の節の留に
　　閉門の者は親類の内が願って用事を相達する。遠慮の者は医者等を手前へ呼び申し、外は自分の取扱いのはずであるが、内蔵助の届けにて遠慮中病用医者などを呼び申す儀、その外の用事等を松原右衛門に相達するためゆえ、右の通り右衛門に取扱わせた　但し右遠慮中、息子宇右衛門を江戸より召し、内蔵介蟄居

一、安永三年、秋田与兵衛遠慮を仰せ付けられ、丹羽五郎八が狛木工方へ相願い通路を行ったところ、五郎八より達しがないにつき、その段穿鑿を遂げたところ、御番組侍中、与力が通路を行う節は目付中へ断り申すべきはず

一、享保十六年二月二十三日、月番大御番頭中川主膳へ御用番采女方が御座所において左の通り申し渡された
　前々大御番組中の内、自分遠慮等を仰せ付けられた者共がある節、親類共通路の儀は大御番頭中より目付中へ相達したにつき通路を申し渡された由。この以後は軽き遠慮にても親類共の内一人通路の儀を御家老中へ相伺い申し渡すべき旨

　　但し御書院番組・新番組中の儀は前々より御家老中へ相伺い来た由

　右は去る十六日、御腰物奉行立岩九太夫の御役御取り上げ、大御番組へ入れられ、伺いの上遠慮を仰せ付けられた節、太田三弥の御番組河崎三郎兵衛が通路を行いたい旨を筆頭をもって番頭へ相願ったところ、番頭の差図までにて通路を申し渡されたにつき、月番海福忠左衛門より采女方へ以後右取扱いを相定めるようにと申し達し置いたところ、このごとし

一、同十七年六月十八日、御家中閉門並びに遠慮の者方へ一家共通路の節、こちら仲間月番へ相達す品を今日酒井与三左衛門方へ相伺ったところ、左の通り相究め置くよう申し聞かれた
　一、閉門を仰せ付けられた者方へ通路を行う一類の者、通路を行う度々に御番頭並びに通路を行う者より御目付共まで相断つはず
　一、上より遠慮を仰せ付けられた者方へ通路を行う一類の者、通路を行う度々相断つはず
　　　但し番頭は最初に一度相断ち、度々には断たないはず
　一、その身より遠慮を相伺う者方へ通路を行う一類の者、只今までの通り最初一度申し聞き、その後は申し聞くに及ばないはず

一、享保十八年二月二十二日、太田三郎兵衛遠慮中通路の三沢左源太より使いを遣わした旨を手紙にて断りがあり、もっとも自分見廻りの段断りがある儀も留がある。この後元文の頃も通路の仁が家来を遣わす事は通例である。もっとも自分にも罷り越す事、且つまた毎日通路を行うにてもなく、一日置き二日置き位の断りがある事

一、同二十年八月十六日、稲葉采女方与力岩崎与一右衛門、采女方より遠慮を申し付けられた本多縫殿方家来福岡八郎右衛門と申す者○続きがあるにつき通路の儀を月番西尾源太左衛門へ問い合わせがあり、八郎右衛門が通路を行うのは苦しかるまじき旨挨拶を行い、則ち通路を行った留がある

一、元文三年四月、大御番組当番所御用箱受け取り渡し不念につき、それぞれ遠慮を仰せ付けられた節、通路の面々が月番同役方へ達した趣は、日々自身罷り越し或いは使いを差し越す旨が区々に相見える事。もっとも御番頭組にての通路である

一、延享四年正月二十二日、中根靱負が申し聞いたのは「御番組溝口市左衛門の儀、仙石庄右衛門逼塞の通路を願いの通り仰せ付けられたところ、市左衛門は痛所があり歩行成り難いにつき、息子金五太夫を名代に差し越したい段相願い、その段を御家老中へ相達したところ、その通り申し聞くべき旨を申し聞かれ、その段を市左衛門へ申し渡した」旨断り申し聞いた。以後息子或いは家来を遣わす旨断り申し聞く。二十五日市左衛門出勤

一、寛延元年二月二十二日、松平主馬方が申し聞かれたのは「拙者与力屋代藤治右衛門の義、松井平兵衛方へ通路を行いたい旨相願いにつき、その通り申し付けられた」由、断りを申し聞かれた。藤治右衛門の義もその旨相達した

一、同日稲葉采女が申し聞いたのは「坂部多曽右衛門の義、只今まで相伺い遠慮罷り在ったところ、なお又この度上より遠慮を仰せ下された。これにより家来坂部久左衛門は只今まで通路を行ってきたが、兄弟の義につき、この者も遠慮を行わせ指し置くべきか。最前相伺い通路を行ってきたから相伺ってくれるよう」申し聞き、その段を松平主馬方へ申し達したところ「陪臣の義につき遠慮に及ばない」旨にて、その通り采女に申し聞いたところ「左候ならば通路の儀そのまま行いたい」旨につき、これ又相達したところ「勝手次第に行うよう」申し聞かれ、その段を采女へ申し聞いた

一、延享三年十二月二十六日、力丸又左衛門の儀、宜しからぬ品相聞こえ不調法の儀につき、急度遠慮罷り在るよう仰せ付けられた。右につき渋谷弥悦通路の者申し遣わす節、力丸

1. There are numerous cases where retainer visits are conducted by yoriki (assistant officials), and various matters concerning punishments. On June 16th, Tenpō 4th year, when Kuno Sakuemon was punished, Suzuki Chūtayū reported the matter to the senior councillors.

1. In October, Tenpō 4th year, when Wakabayashi Shūshirō was confined, Castle Deputy's yoriki Hori Otozaburō conducted visits.

1. On April 9th, Bunka 5th year, Kuze Kyūjirō, serving as visitor for Karata Gonnosuke, reported: "Today I went out for afternoon duty. Should there naturally be nearby fires or other emergencies, either Harada Jūbei or Atsumi Sukezaemon from my family will go. Of course, in such cases I will report this." He requested understanding of this arrangement.

1. On August 21st, Enkyō 2nd year, when Shimada Shinemon was ordered into discretionary confinement, regarding visitation rights that relatives should discuss and petition the officials for - since this did not occur, and Yoda Sainai, retainer of Ashida Zusho, was a close associate, family members should have discussed and arranged visits as per precedent. Since this consultation was neglected through carelessness, Sainai should be reprimanded and confined, which should be communicated to Zusho, as ordered to Inspector Hasebe Koemon.

1. Record from August 24th, Kyōhō 1st year, regarding Shimada Kuranosuke's discretionary confinement:
　　Those under house confinement have relatives petition to communicate business. Those under discretionary confinement call doctors to their residence, and other matters are handled personally. However, since Kuranosuke reported that during confinement he would call doctors for illness and have other business communicated through Matsubara Uemon, Uemon was made to handle these matters accordingly. However, during this confinement, his son Uemon was summoned from Edo, and Kuranosuke was placed under strict house arrest.

1. In An'ei 3rd year, when Akita Yohei was ordered into discretionary confinement, Niwa Gorōhachi petitioned Koma Takuminokami to conduct visits. Since there was no communication from Gorōhachi, when this matter was investigated, it was found that when guard unit retainers and yoriki conduct visits, they should notify the inspectors.

1. On February 23rd, Kyōhō 16th year, Duty Officer Uneme communicated the following to Monthly Officer Senior Guard Commander Nakagawa Shuzen at the formal audience chamber:
　Previously, when members of the senior guard units were ordered into personal discretionary confinement, relatives' visitation rights were granted after senior guard commanders communicated with the inspectors. Hereafter, even for minor discretionary confinements, one relative's visitation rights should be reported to the senior councillors.

　　However, members of the personal attendant guard and new guard units have previously reported to senior councillors.

　This concerns the case where on the 16th, Sword Bearer Tateiwa Kyūtayū had his position revoked and was transferred to the senior guard unit. After inquiry, when discretionary confinement was ordered, Ōta Miya's guard unit member Kawasaki Saburobei petitioned through the unit leader to the commander for visitation rights. Since visitation was granted only with the commander's approval, Monthly Officer Kaifuku Chūzaemon communicated to Uneme's office that procedures should be established for future cases.

1. On June 18th, Kyōhō 17th year, regarding family members' visits to those under house confinement and discretionary confinement among domain retainers, when reporting to our colleague monthly officers, after inquiring with Sakai Yosanzaemon today, he advised the following arrangements:
　1. Family members visiting those ordered into house confinement should notify inspectors each time through guard commanders and the visiting persons.
　1. Family members visiting those ordered into discretionary confinement from above should notify each visit.
　　　However, commanders should notify once initially, not repeatedly.
　1. Family members visiting those who personally petitioned for discretionary confinement should notify once initially as before, with no need for subsequent notifications.
　　　　End

1. On February 22nd, Kyōhō 18th year, regarding visits during Ōta Saburobei's discretionary confinement, there was written notification that Misawa Sagenta sent messengers, and there are also records of notifications regarding personal visits. After this, around the Genbun era, it became customary for visitors to send retainers, and also to visit personally. Moreover, visits were not daily but notified every other day or every two days.

1. On August 16th, Kyōhō 20th year, yoriki Iwasaki Yoichemon of Inaba Uneme's office - regarding the retainer Fukuoka Hachiemon of Honda Nuinodono who was ordered into discretionary confinement by Uneme's office, there was an inquiry to Monthly Officer Nishio Gentazaemon about visitation rights. After greeting that Hachiemon conducting visits would be acceptable, visits were conducted accordingly, as recorded.

1. In April, Genbun 3rd year, when various people were ordered into discretionary confinement for negligence in receiving and transferring official document boxes at the senior guard unit duty station, the visiting persons reported to monthly colleague officers that they would either visit personally daily or send messengers, with various approaches observed. These were visits within guard commander units.

1. On January 22nd, Enkyō 4th year, Nakane Yukie reported: "Guard unit member Mizoguchi Ichizaemon was approved to visit Sengoku Shōemon under strict house arrest as petitioned. However, since Ichizaemon has injuries and cannot walk, he petitioned to send his son Kingotayū as representative. When this was communicated to the senior councillors, they agreed to this arrangement, which was communicated to Ichizaemon." He reported that hereafter sons or retainers would be sent. Ichizaemon returned to duty on the 25th.

1. On February 22nd, Kan'en 1st year, Matsudaira Shume reported: "My yoriki Yashiro Tōjiemon petitioned to conduct visits to Matsui Heibei's residence, which was approved as requested." Tōjiemon was also informed of this arrangement.

1. The same day, Inaba Uneme reported: "Sakabe Tasoemon has been under self-petitioned discretionary confinement until now, but this time was ordered into discretionary confinement from above. Therefore, retainer Sakabe Kyūzaemon, who has been conducting visits until now, being his brother - should this person also be ordered into confinement? Since he was previously approved for visits, please inquire." When this was communicated to Matsudaira Shume, he replied that since he is a retainer, confinement is unnecessary. When Uneme was informed accordingly, he requested to continue visitation as before. When this was further communicated, he was told to proceed as convenient, which was communicated to Uneme.
