The above was sent from our side's head steward to the other side's head steward, called "kayauchi." Additionally, as previously arranged, five ryō in gold for Tsunehiro's initial court rank and ceremonial expenses were sent. While this should have been brought today, since it would also be convenient for Toshiaki's household, it was delivered in advance to the matchmaker Seisan on the 28th of last month. Besides this, gifts to relatives and retainers were as follows. These were mostly simple items, generally using plain wood stands for economy:
Fans - to Fujiki Higo-no-suke
Women's fans - to Oshiga
Same - to Sakurai
300 momme cash and two folded half-sheets - to samurai retainer
Same - to maidservant
200 momme cash and two folded half-sheets - to manservant
Same - to cook
After this was completed, they proceeded to the reception room. Echizen-no-kami wore hemp formal dress, and his wife Otaki wore a day kosode with obi and painted eyebrows, the couple taking their seats. Both sides exchanged congratulatory words for the day's auspicious adoption, and after completion, proceeded to a separate room in the back. The arrangements were the same: clam soup, sake, cold dishes, paper mats, dried squid rolls, and seaweed placed on three-legged stands, with sake cups and earthenware dishes also placed on stands. After mutual greetings, Echizen-no-kami first offered to the market, followed immediately by return cups. Next Tsuneki, then Tsunehiro did the same. Next, Otaki first offered to me, continuing in the same manner through Tsuneki and Tsunehiro. After completion, everything was cleared away, and fukusa cloths, soup, and sea bream were served. Fujiki Inaba-no-suke, matchmaker Nomura Awaji-no-kami and others were in attendance. After a short time Matsunami Gagaku-no-kami arrived, and there were numerous toasts among the group. Various delicacies were served: inkstone covers (small amounts of salmon, three fish), lotus root and taro, formal dishes (sea bream with lily bulbs and kuzu starch), sushi, soup (matsutake mushrooms), vinegared dishes, etc. After completion, the meal trays were brought out as follows:
