扇子箱等は兼ねて瀬尾方にて準備してあり、今日持参してそれぞれ配り置いた。ただいま出向くべし旨の案内があったので、千代蔵は麻上下・振袖・一刀を着用し、手代小兵衛、丁稚の藤三郎・市蔵を召し連れて屋敷へ出向いた。私はうの等と大津屋に残っていた。酒飯を頂き、半時ばかりで屋敷の表向きが済んだとのことで帰ってきた。ただし留守居方にて祝酒の儀があり、千代蔵は盃のやり取りを受けた。三十杯ばかり後のことであるとのこと。もっとも中嶋利兵衛・利介両人が始終取り扱ったとのこと。甚だ幼稚な義ではあるが、総じて滞りなく相勤め、速やかに済んだとのこと、趣旨は重々承知した。右大津屋へ利介の手代並びに喜六郎が参り、初めて面会し、何かと挨拶に及んだ。申の刻ばかり（午後3時頃）に堀川方まで帰り、私は同家の祝酒に残り、千代蔵は帰宅させた。
十七日甲午晴れ 風烈し 午後、千代蔵を陽明家御用人清水玄蕃允方へ礼に遣わし、扇子一箱を送った。着用は麻上下・振袖・一刀で、今日は次兵衛の誘引である。もっとも着用は御殿にて、若者供は十五日の如くである。それより薩州家中向けの用聞亀八という者の方へ引いて行った。着用は袴・羽織・一刀で、同じく次兵衛の誘引である。相済んで寺町若狭守方へ立ち寄り、夕刻帰宅した。

十八日乙未晴れ 讃改守直一翁（その時年八十）が今朝卒去したので弔慰のため参り、香奠金一朱を送って拝礼させた。右老人は絶えて千若年来、算術その他社中の義等格別の懇情を預かった恩義のある翁である。残念な気持ちは限りないものである。

Fan boxes and other items had been prepared beforehand at Seo's place and were brought and distributed today. When notice came that [we] should depart immediately, Chiyozō dressed in hemp formal wear, long-sleeved kimono, and sword, and accompanied by clerk Kohei and apprentices Tōzaburō and Ichizō, went to the residence. I remained at Ōtsuya with Uno and others. We partook of sake and food, and after about half an hour, [they] returned saying the formal proceedings at the residence had concluded. However, there was a celebratory drinking ceremony with the caretaker, and Chiyozō participated in the exchange of sake cups. This was after about thirty cups had been exchanged. Throughout, both Nakajima Rihei and Risuke handled the arrangements. Though it was quite a juvenile affair, overall it was carried out without incident and concluded promptly - the intent was fully understood. Risuke's clerk and Kirokurou came to Ōtsuya, meeting for the first time and exchanging various greetings. Around the Hour of the Monkey (3 PM), [we] returned to the Horikawa residence. I remained for the celebratory drinking there while Chiyozō was sent home.
17th day, 甲午, Clear with strong winds - In the afternoon, I sent Chiyozō to pay respects to Shimizu Gemba-no-jō, an attendant of the Yōmei family, and presented a box of fans. He wore hemp formal wear, long-sleeved kimono, and sword, with Jibei as his guide today. His attire was arranged at the palace, with young attendants as on the 15th. From there, he was taken to one Kamehachi, who serves as a liaison for the Satsuma household. He wore hakama, haori, and sword, again with Jibei as guide. After completing this, [we] stopped by Teramachi Wakasa-no-kami's residence and returned home in the evening.

18th day, 乙未, Clear - Master Naoichi (age 80 at the time), the reform supervisor, passed away this morning, so I went to offer condolences and sent one shu in funeral money, having him pay respects. This elderly gentleman had for many years shown exceptional kindness in arithmetic and other shrine matters - he was truly a benefactor. My feelings of loss are boundless.
○ The Eastern Honganji's main consort entered the palace for the first time today. Sake and food were served. She is a princess from Fushimi and the Great Lord's niece.
