其年 其の月其の日百川樓の唐料理を喰わ
むとて両三輩かたらひあひて百川樓に心さす
先づ彼が表の木戸を経て上り口にいたれは直に

Chinese Cuisine of the Edo Period
On a certain day of a certain month in a certain year, we decided to eat Chinese cuisine at Hyakusenrō, so two or three of us consulted together and headed to Hyakusenrō. First, we passed through the front gate and arrived at the entrance, where there was immediately a staircase leading to the second floor. Upon climbing it, there was an eighteen-tatami reception room on the right side. (To the east there was a tokonoma alcove with a hanging scroll depicting the Southern Star painted by Kanō Tan'yū, and a flower vase by the alcove pillar with chrysanthemums arranged with Spanish broom) Sliding doors were erected on the north and west sides of the room (the frames were red cedar heartwood, doors with Enshū-style openwork and intermediate crosspieces), and on the south-facing veranda, what should be called a handrail was constructed with red cedar horizontal boards.
