現代語訳
和藤内は唐土（中国）へ渡り、日本人でありながら大いに働き、唐人どもが大いに怒って虎を放したところ、和藤内は「しゃあしゃあ」と平然として恐がりもせず、あまつさえその虎を半分に引き裂き、毛をむしって鬼の褌にもならないようにしてしまったので、唐人たちも呆れ果てて、残らず顔を見合わせて「はあはあ」と（息を切らして）。和藤内が「参ったか、手をつけば皆々味方になるか」と言えば「はあはあ」と言う。「それなら家来になれ」と言っても「はあはあ」。何を言っているのかわからず、言うなりに従って「はあはあ」と。
めでたく長崎の地に着いたところ、唐人の家来は初めて見るものなので、大変珍しい見物である。

英語訳
Watōnai crossed over to China, and though he was Japanese, he worked great deeds there. When the Chinese became greatly angered and released a tiger, Watōnai remained completely calm, showing no fear whatsoever. Moreover, he tore the tiger in half, plucked its fur, and rendered it so thoroughly defeated that it wouldn't even serve as a demon's loincloth. The Chinese were so astonished that they all looked at each other and panted "haa haa" (gasping for breath). When Watōnai asked, "Do you surrender? If you put down your hands, will you all become my allies?" they replied "haa haa." When he said "Then become my retainers," they still said "haa haa." Not understanding what they were saying, they simply followed his commands and kept saying "haa haa."
When they arrived safely in Nagasaki, the Chinese retainers were something never seen before, making for quite an extraordinary spectacle.
