私儀年寄候付登 城之節御城内杖を突
申度候何方迄御断申達儀候哉を以書付申入
事候ハヽ書付之様子御調可被下候旁承度以
使者得御意候由
一 十月廿五日 御城内御杖御用被成度旨去廿三日御問合之儀
ニ付大目付横田備中守《割書：由｜松》殿江御留守居松原善左衛門《割書：矩｜成》罷出候処
左之通直答有之
被仰下候趣承知仕候ヶ様之儀急度格式者無御座候
御年寄之御老中方江無急度御物語被成候へ者埒
明可申と存候其以後別而御出入之御目付中一両人江
軽御物語被成可然奉存候此方同役共江御断ニ及
不申候猶又御口上之通同役共江寄々可申聞候由
但右ニ付御老中土屋相模守殿江申達候様被 仰付村上
三大夫ゟ相模守殿用人迄相達之
一 同月廿七日重陽御祝儀御献上ニ付而之 御内書并御奉書
於 御城御渡有之御家来拝領物等如例
一 同月廿八日御登城被成候処
公方様御不例ニ付 出御無之
現代語訳
私は年を取ったため、登城の際に御城内で杖をついて
歩きたく思います。どちらまでお断りを申し上げるべき
件でしょうか。書付で申し入れることになりましたら、
書付の様子をお調べいただけるでしょうか。併せて承りたく、
使者を通じてお伺い申し上げます、とのことであった。
一 十月二十五日 御城内で御杖を御用いになりたい旨、去る二十三日にお問い合わせの件
について、大目付横田備中守由松殿へ御留守居松原善左衛門矩成が出向いたところ、
左の通り直接回答があった。
仰せ下された趣旨を承知いたします。このような件については厳格な格式は
ございません。御年寄りの御老中方へきちんとお話しになれば、解決
するものと存じます。その後、特に御出入りの御目付中一、二人へ
軽くお話しになるのがよろしいかと存じます。こちらの同役共へのお断りに
及びません。なお、お口上の通り同役共へ折々申し聞かせます、とのことであった。
但し、右について御老中土屋相模守殿へ申し達するよう仰せ付けられ、村上
三大夫から相模守殿の用人まで伝達した。
一 同月二十七日、重陽御祝儀御献上についての御内書並びに御奉書が
御城にて御渡しがあり、御家来への拝領物等は例の通りであった。
一 同月二十八日、御登城なされたところ、
公方様が御不例につき、御出ましがなかった。

"I have grown old, so when attending the castle, I would like to use a walking stick within the castle grounds. To whom should I make this request? If I am to submit this in writing, could you please examine the format of such a document? I would also like to learn about this matter, so I inquire through this messenger."
1. On October 25th, regarding the inquiry made on the 23rd about the desire to use a walking stick within the castle grounds, when residential representative Matsubara Zensaemon Norinari went to see Chief Inspector Yokota Bitchū-no-kami Yoshimatsu, the following direct response was given:
"I understand what has been conveyed. There is no strict protocol for such matters. If you speak properly to the senior councilors among your elders, it should be resolved. After that, it would be appropriate to speak lightly to one or two of the inspectors with whom you have regular contact. There is no need to formally notify my colleagues. Furthermore, as stated orally, I will inform my colleagues from time to time."
However, regarding this matter, it was ordered that notification be made to Senior Councilor Tsuchiya Sagami-no-kami, and this was conveyed from Murakami Sandayū to Sagami-no-kami's retainer.
1. On the 27th of the same month, regarding the presentation of Chōyō celebration gifts, official letters and formal documents were delivered at the castle, and gifts to retainers, etc., were as usual.
