はまつほとすきて命婦もいと〳〵おしき御
さまかなと心うくおもひけりさうしみ【正身】はみこ御心の

ゆふきりのはるゝけしきもまたみぬに
いふせさ【気鬱】そふるよひのあめかなくもまゝちいて
むほといかに心もとなうとありおはしますま

現代語訳
用意しようとも思われずにいたのであろうか。あちらでは大分時間が過ぎて、命婦もとても惜しいお方だなあと心苦しく思っていた。正身（姫君）は心の内で恥ずかしくお思いになって、今朝のお手紙がまだ来ないけれど、なかなか咎めるとも判断なさらなかった。
夕霧の晴れる様子もまだ見えないのに
憂鬱さが募る夜の雨よ
雲間から少し晴れるだろうかと、どんなにか心もとないとお思いでいらっしゃる。美しいお姿を女房たちは胸を詰まらせて

Perhaps he did not think to make preparations. Over there, quite some time had passed, and Myōbu also thought with a heavy heart, "What a precious lord he is." The lady herself (the princess) felt ashamed in her heart, and though the morning letter had not yet arrived, she did not really think to blame him for it.
Though no sign appears of the evening mist clearing,
How melancholy grows with the night rain
"Will it clear a little through the clouds?" How anxiously she must have been thinking. The court ladies, seeing her beautiful appearance, felt their hearts constricted with emotion.
